Best sound? Like Ulicum said, DAC + Headphones and maybe a lapel microphone (you get them for less than 10$ and they sound great). I use HiFiMan HE400S with NuPrime amp.

http://www.head-fi.org/ try to look for more information here if you're interested.

I'd rather recommend http://www.innerfidelity.com/ Measurements are a lovely thing.

I'm not bringing them over there. I'm not sure when would I be able to listen to them since they're open and not a lot of people are fond of metalcore. :(

But we can go for a beer and talk about them?

Kraken... I won it from WG at Gamescon in 2014.  Works well, good quality, comfortable and nice sound.

I like Razer products, but I really don't need the "bells and whistles".

SoundBlaster X-Fi HD as DAC and headphone amp, and Sennheiser HD 598 headphones. Godly sound, super comfortable.

I actually have a separate headprone/mic combo from which I only use for mic. I just keep them around my neck.

Regarding headsets I'm using this one (Logitech G930). The sound quality is good for gaming, especially for games like ArmA, the mic is okay to good with the right settings. It's comfortable, closes up your ears quite good and the wireless function is simply godly. The downside is the price tag.

But I'd rather get those, even if they are quite expensive.

audio technica ATH-M50x and antlion modmic here. The headphones mean that gaming, music and movies are all well balanced and the modmic is easy to attach and the sound quality is superb.

I'd recommend the 80ohm or 32ohm version if you're not going to get an amplifier.
