Just for the hell of it I wondered if I should try Pz38(t)NA;PzIII, A20 or even Luchs / Leopard?

The maps are shrinked and most fights will be peekaboom. Armor and gun seems more important than speed and agility. Traverse of track and gun could save you out of a pickle I guess.

I think the PzIII is the one. Or maybe Leopard.
I drove/drive them and the other Germans you mentioned. But I did not drive the A-20, yet.

/edit: Your link leads to a 404-error.

A-20 is useless.

The Leopard has 40HP more than the PzKpfw III and  bounces more AP shell. It is more vulnerable to HE spam to the front and can't mount a rammer though. The T-28 is a nice option, it's 85 & 57mm topguns outdamage every other gunoption on that tier. Sure, you'll be penetrated by any tank, but you'll penetrate everyone else too and do alot more alpha damage.

The other Tier IV i tested yesterday were not that great for the one on one machtes
Lee, has a great gun but not turret and rather slow traverse speed will leave you vulnerable most of the time and you're dead once you're tracked
Valentine, great all around armor, but your 45mm gun is useless against the frontal armor of almost all tier 4 tanks.
T50, great speed and maneuverability, but the armor is not very thick and tier 4 tanks have no problem tracking you at high speed (well, all but the Lee)

Strange but yes it does. The link is on the front page.

So assuming that I go with PzIII, Rammer+Vent+GLD and Gun 7,5 cm KwK 37 L/24+gold ammo ftw?

My reasoning is that the faster autoguns always fire 1-2 rounds in the air so RoF won't win the game but raw force will. Rammer will improve the RoF, Vent is a no brainer and this tank can't have the vert stab. Perhaps toolbox is viable over gun laying?

T-28 looks evil with the big gun.

If you disable the recoil in 1st person mode in the option, the gun will not travel upwards when firing autoguns. This 'recoil' is the fallout of a optional graphic effect and not realy part of the game mechanics. I would not rely on the rather underpowered autoguns on tier 4 matches though.

I used a PzKpfw III too yesterday, but with a long 5cm but also with rammer, gld and vents. Worked rather well. The Match against a Leo was a close call and it came down to me missing my last two shots cause he killed my gunner. The other match was... well, he only spoke russian and i couldnt find him ingame, so i canceld that one.  <_<

Feind: Did you find all the fights close quarter or did you have longer duels?

Leo in Tier 4 match is kinda OP :) frontally it can't be penetrated reliably by most Tier 4's.
its fast and has a decent gun, and well it's a mini panther what more do you want.

The Leo i encountered on Himmelsdorf, i guess he wanted to use his mobility so he charged my over the central open area. I moved behind the fountain ruins and kept my front towards him, tracked him and a fast and brutal battle of attrition started with me firing at him nonstop and he firing at me nonstop. I had no problems penetrating his front (turret and the little flat sides on the hull front, but like i said, one shot killed my gunner and the aiming reticle couldnt keep up with the firing speed anymore. :/

I would've preferd another position, but once the shotout started, moving meant less accuracy and the chance of getting tracked meaning, i get turned around showing my soft sides. So it was rather uninteressting in terms of tactics used. Still fun though.

depends on who drives the leo, driving trough the center of the map is never a good idea  though (unless it's a high tier battle with slow enemy tanks you can hide behind the buildings and spot them).

if you angle the front of a leo it's near impenetratble for the rest of the tier 4 lights except for turret, and it's heavy so you can always use it for last effort ramming :)

I prefer using elite T-28. It has paper armour but it cannot be overmanouvered and has insanely good cannon/s for its tier (57mm and 85mm).

Well, on a 1on1 with max tier 4, that's not that bad of an idea. ;)

4600+ battles and such question?
IMO, spam since this happens very rarely.

Edit: Anyways a Leopard would be my choice.

Don't know aboug you, but until yesterday i didn't have the chance to get a lot of 1on1 tier 4 expierience outside of few trainingsmatches. And a Leo or PzKpfw III is used quiet different in a 1on1 duel with another tier IV than it's used in a public 15on15 match. You don't need to think about scouting for your team but you'll also not be able to rely on covering fire from anyone else. Armor needs to be reevaluated as you only will face guns found on tier 4 lights, mediums and heavies* and no SPGs or TDs. I did quiet some training rounds yesterday with my friends and would've picked a T-28 w/ 57mm, but i don't have one in my garage right now, so i stuck with my PzKpfw III for now. So what's wrong about asking about the ideas, suggestions and expierience for a league that didn't exist until a week ago.

But maybe you can share your 7.000+ battle experience on 1on1 tier 4 matches.  :Smile_harp:

*forgot to mention it in the post above: don't even try the B2, it might have nice armor if it's toptank, but it wont save you from tier 4 tank guns and your gun can't penetrate a PzKpfw III or Leo from the front and has big problems countering a Lee unless you know it's weakspots.

sry read it and thought again, see edit.
On the negative side is the special handling of the Leopard. Moreover it will enable the path to LT 5.
Remember it's mostly MM as scout, if upper third in teamlist your are the fighter, the one on one may occur. You will win most of them.
If at the end of team list, get your pll to play "bait and prey" games with the enemy, your battle experience should help with that.

Yeah, but even if i'm top in any of my T4 tanks i seldom com up against the enemy alone as i try to fight as part of a team. I had to realise i misjudged the firepower and survivability of quiet some of my T4 tanks, cause i'm used to getting support fire while drawing the enemy gunfire, or giving supportfire while someone else is beeing shot at. So i see nothing wrong in asking for 'real' 1on1 expierience, cause standard public games may give a wrong impression about the actual performance of the tank when driving solo. :D

But yeah, the Leo (together with the PzKpfw III and T28) are probably the overall best choices. The T-28 offers the best guns, the Leo the Best Armor and the PzKpfw III trades in bounciness and 40HP for improved HE resistanceb an optional 75mm howitzer and the ability to mount a rammer.

my pzkw III is best, max 7 kills game, elite crew at 100% + 90% its fast well armored and the long 50mm can kill any other tier IV, its optics cost 25 times more then the tank, sure but it earned it got steelwall conquerer and of course tons of scout medals

i love my III its fun to play
