Hey Guys I just finished my 100th battle on Matilda BP and all I can say about this tank is fact that Matilda needs a buff. Many times i stand against Churchill III on a battlefield, sometimes i've won but most of the time this fight was unfair. Why i give you clash of Churchill and Matilda? Because both has the same gun, both are 5th prems, and their fights looks always the same "shoot enemy in the turret from 50m and kill or be killed". Matilda is MT which is unable to flank enemy, so all you can do is face your enemy and shoot every 2 sec. So now comparison:
                      Matilda           Churchill
DPM              2040              2053  (same gun yet worse DPM)
RoF               27.20            27.37   (same gun yet worse RoF)
Reload           2.21              2.19  (same gun yet worse reload)
Aim time           2.21              2.19 (same gun yet worse aim time)
Ammo              55                 140  (really 55 capacity with so spaming gun?)
Elevation           20                 12   (yay still can't hit someone over me)
Depression      12.5              6   (it's only one good thing in this tank)
Speed                22                28  (like [edited]my life)
Engine              190               374 (oh right but maybe power/weight is better)
P/W                   6.32             9.42 (nope)
Resist hard        0.96             1.09 (well im lighter than Churchill so...)
Resist Med        1.25             1.21 (WHAT?)
Resist  soft        2.21             2.20 (how this is even possible?)
Hull armor       75/70/55         176/76/50 (its good you cant change that)
Turrent armor   76/63/57        88/88/76  (same here)
HP                    610                 700  (ok so churchill can take 2 more shots with better RoF, balanced right?)

So pls Wargaming make MatildaBP little more playable...

I've never played it, I don't own it, but just from how I've seen it perform I'm inclined to agree with you, it needs some love to be competitive.

I played 461 battles with it (used to be my standard session-starter along with Matilda IV), and honestly whilst it's certainly not great, it's fine for a tier V with premium MM. Mobility is obviously a massive weakness, but apart from that the only real problem I've run into is the limited ammo supply.

Ye, it's not that bad but if WG is moving from "Historically Accurate Mode" to Arcade Mode they should balance some tanks, and this is one of them. They buffed speed of T95 or T28 so why not buff Matilda, and if they share same gun with Churchill they should have the same stats.

If anything I'd prefer to see an engine buff over top speed. None of the Matildas are fast, but MBP has the added bonus of having a super-weak engine that craps itself the instant you approach a slope. Top speed buff with a weak engine isn't going to do much for your mobility.

As for Churchill III, it's both a heavy and in the Russian tech tree; it may have the same gun but this isn't an ideal comparison.

Haha Matilda BP is one of the most OP tanks in the game.

Well I kinda disagree with that on every level possible, it's one of the tanks that have the absolute smallest fear factor for me.

IMO if they buff the speed, they need to nerf other aspects of it. Sure Churchill is faster, but he is a brawler, BP is not "well not really". I use it as a bully flanker when I get to town or the area I go to. Others take the heat and I flank and use the ROF to all it's worth. And IMO accuracy is good enough if you fully aim, and making that better along with speed would just buff it to much.  I like it. And it's a great bully tank. Many say you should play it as a sniper support. But I've played mine aggressive "even with the slow speed". And it just works for me, even with the worse stats. It's not a tank you should ignore when it sneaks up on your side, regardless what you fight. I've raped many a tier 6 HT faster then the target he fights would ever do.

If it needs any buffs, it's engine power and terrain resistance. Not speed or gun buffs. It bleeds to much at times, and is not great up slopes or hills.

Heck DPM is good enough to win a 1 vs 1 when you face the Swedish tier 6 medium if you get the first shot in.

But with higher alpha he can shot, go back, reload and again. 150dmg vs 75dmg and you cannot chase him bc you're to slow.

I find my Matilda to be OK, except for its speed.

The Matilda IV is OK, but could definitely use a buff on the pen of its gun.

Love the Matildas.

The Matilda BP was my first Premium and my first British tank. Just over 1000 games in it, but poor 49% win rate. Often I just arrive at the party too late - lots of 0 damage games. A speed buff (nothing ridiculous) would at least allow it to join the occasional fracas.

Matilda IV is my favourite because it is a bit quicker and I can add 5% oil to increase the speed a little more - the Matilda BP doesn't have this option. So of course the Russian version of a British tank is better than the British version. Hhmm....

I have camo and binos on mine and just trundle along to a bush and use it as a turreted TD with some ability to push in mid/late game.  That rapid-fire gun with 180 pen will quickly whittle away any opponent, and with pref MM it sees nothing higher than Tier 6.  If I can get 60% wins in it then it can't be that bad.  One of the very few tanks in which I have actually run out of ammo.

I would say different rather than better.  The Matilda IV has better armour, and is a bit more fun to play, but the Matilda BP has a far better gun.

The only good Matilda is the one on tier 4 which makes tier 6 tanks really aggravated with a small painis.

When I say better, I was purely talking about speed. I play my MBP every time I play WoT, but do get frustrated when I'm arriving too late to get in the action.

I think it's stretching it to say that a slower speed is 'different' rather than 'not good'. :)

First of all what Matilda BP needs is a name change, it has nothing to do with Black prince tank, and is actually a Cromwell turret mounted on Matilda II hull. IIRC it was a first british premium tank (and first british tank) to be implemented in the game and they still managed to screw the name up. Yet some other tanks have had their names casually changed even though they weren't blatantly incorrect to begin with (IS-8 -> T-10, stalin and post-stalin era respectively).

I know it's nitpicking and has nothing to do with buffs, but it annoys me to no end to see how much attention is given out to soviet tanks and what lengths WG will go to get even the tiniest details right, yet some other nations and tanks are ignored. If I'm not mistaken they've even managed to screw up proportions on Comet when designing HD model (I've seen some people on forum bringing it up along with real life photographs for comparison).

[/rant]

Regarding the buffs, I'd start with increasing shell capacity, even a slight increase would be an improvement since tank burns through its ammo rapidly.

Without a speed buff it seems pointless to do that: I rarely use up all my ammo as there's no-one left to shoot when I eventually get there.

A speed-buffed Matilda would be a bit odd.  Matildas were rather slow.

Maybe we could lobby for a new premium: a Cromwell with a Matilda turret?

The Matilda BP has a 190hp engine whereas the Matilda IV has a 274hp engine.

Just give the former the engine from the latter and it would be a much better tank. No need to buff the top speed, just give it the ability to go up a slope faster than a TOG 2.

But the Matilda BP has a gun that is massively better than the Matilda IV.

It's a slow turreted and very effective TD.
