Hello.

I know arty threads have gone quite out of fashion lately, however being quite "controversial", I would like to share my opinions and arguments as well as gather the meanings of the community. I am sorry if there has already been made several polls with this question, but I am afraid I have not been able to spot one yet.

 

Here comes the grand question: How do you feel about the new arty mechanics introduced in 9.18 compared to the current version?

 

Personally I have actually grown to accept artillery in its current state (although I understand that many of you may feel otherwise). What I am not so happy about is the introduction of the new mechanics, more specifically the stun and increased splash. I know arty has its flaws, however will these new changes be for the better?

 

Currently, as long as you have a half mobile tank, you have the possibility to actually do some half planned evasive manouvers in order to dodge the shells. With 9.18, this will almost be completely impossible. Arty will have a 50% increase to its splash radius, as well as a faster aim time, better accuracy and a faster reload. This will make it almost impossible to avoid a hit if artillery is aiming at you. If that was not enough, there is also a stun mechanic, crippling your tank for 15-30 seconds unless you use your rechrargable med kit. While the alpha damage has been reduced, I still do not feel that this makes up for the drastical increase in hits, in addition to the stun. Because of the stun, you will also lose another customizable consumable slot, as med kit is practically as important as a repair kit now (unless you are a madman).

 

Another "improvement" in 9.18 is the reduced amount of arty penetrations and one shots. I find this false. True, many semi armored tanks will now be resistent to arty penetration, however poorly armored tanks (such as the paper German tds), will still be penetrated by hits to the primary armor. I fear that such tanks will struggle even more against artillery than before. As previously mentioned, the accuracy, aim time and reload will be devastating for paper tanks. Fine, there will not be as many one shots due to the reduced alpha, however I fear that the overall amount of penetrations might actually increase.

 

Please note, I am not trying to say that artillery is balanced and should remain as it is. I simply feel that this is not the right direction to choose.

 

Also, forgive my (possible) spelling errors. I was also planning to write several other arguments, though I am afraid (as the gold fish I am) that I have forgotten them.

Not played it myself yet, but seeing as my main beef with arty was the massive alpha, I'll go with an improvement at this point.

I understand how you feel, but I am still worried about the significant increase in hits as well as the stun.

Besides, now we can get data from both before and after the patch.

As long as they can shoot over obstacles it's not fixed, no matter what you do to them. But, 9.18 might be a bit better. Might, know for certain after I've played enough with them.

My experience of the latest iteration of the stun was that the distraction of the graphic over your crew was worse than the actual stun effect.  Earlier sandbox versions I didn't like at all.

 

But you can't tell anything from the test server, I'll wait for it to go live.
