I was considering getting the new German heavy Pz.Kpfw. VII, but after comparing it to the British FV215b, I'm starting to have second thoughts.

Looking at these two tanks, their models are nearly identical when considering armor angling. The FV has much stronger frontal turret armor, but considerably worse hull armor.

Looking at the gun, there is simply no comparison. The FV has more than a 31% DPS advantage, nearly a second better aim time, a 0.03 better dispersion and nearly twice the turret traverse speed. It also aims better while moving. The Pz.Kpfw. does however have a substantially higher alpha damage, but that's hardly worth all the tradeoffs gun-wise.

Then we have mobility. The FV has a tiny bit higher top speed, a substantially better power-to-weight ratio, traverse speed and ground resistances. The Pz.Kpfw. reverses slightly faster though, but again, the FV has all the advantages.

On paper, as far as I can see, the three main advantages the Pz.Kpfw. have are higher alpha damage, higher hull armor and less chance to be set on fire, but is that worth it? Could someone with experience with these tanks please point out what makes the Pz.Kpfw. an equal or better choice? With all the premium rounds flying around, I'm just not sure that the hull armor does THAT much of a difference.

Do you like being set on fire?

Do you like having your ammo rack getting damaged/destroyed?

If yes then the FV 215b is for you!

(I had it on Asia and I remember being set on fire and having ammo rack damage in 4/5 games.)

Can pen Pz VII with around 200mm pen through turret mantlet. Cannot sidescrape for the same reason as FV, 200mm weakspot shoulders.

FV is better because better turret and gun. No choice really.

For a good player, the FV is probably better. For plebs (ie most players) the Pz VII is to recommend. Much better armor and higher alpha damage.

most the time the 215b doesnt really feel like a heavy if you cant hide your hull completly

havnt played the Pz VII but cant imagine its similar fragile or easy to set on fire

215b just dont like being beaten  if it can shot without being shot it got its best games

Pz VII is good fun for a blast in randoms as most people don't aim for weakspots (the shoulders) and harmlessly bounce gold off your hull.

I feel like the Maus will get nerfed before I even reach T10 anyway.

not really relevant now tho.....

But Pz kpfw 7 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> FV215b for most people as all the fv215b is is a very good gun on a mediocre platform.

Pz VII is fairly idiot proof, you point it at people, wiggle a bit and it'll reliably bounce anything less than about 270-280 pen from the front unless they get a lucky shot through the mantlet.

Whereas pretty much everyone and their mother will pen the 215b and probably set you on fire.

Honestly considering the buffs going on to other heavies, like the Maus, Type 5 etc. the 215b needs some love or needs to be turned into the Chieftain which is basically a 215b but without the awkwardness and giant size.

I'm a huge favorite of the Fv215b, I think its an awesome tank, that gun performance! Don't understand why people would ever dis it. No experience with the pz. VII though.

I can think of a few things :P

-Rear turreted

-Catches on fire whenever something as much looks at it

-Kinda meh armour for a tier X heavy

-Can't sidescrape

I mean, good for you if you can play it well to its strengths but I found it horribly awkward to work with and I saw no real point to it compared to the Conqueror

Yeh Conqueror > 215b.

If you literally gave the Conqueror the 215b's 2.5k HP and the same DPM the 215b has, it would easily be one of the best tier 10 heavies without changing anything else.

I guess the Fv215b is much harder to play but once you can use its to its full potential its far better
