Now that pref MM is dead, maybe they need to take a look at tanks with lackluster guns as kv5, is6 and to some extent wz 111 ?

Playing kv5 these days is like torture meeting almost only is3s, type 4 heavies, mini-mauses, obj 252 etc.

If you want PMM play tier 9. If you want ultra PMM play tier 10 then you can basically always feed on low tiers in a 2-3 tier game.

Why would you bring a KV-5 to a power creep fight ?

Playing KV-5 post-9.18 is just cruel. Let her rest in peace, man.

Same. Definitely got a bit harder, but the kv-5 is far from dead.

Well, before the KV-5 buff basically all your enemies didn't have problems penning you, either through R2 or just because of the cheese flat turret. After the buff it was much better but lacking the pen your role in the KV-5 was mainly to still fight lower tiers which it totally doesnt see anymore right now.

It's Russian. Give it time and it'll be buffed and moved down to tier 6 whilst still retaining tier 8 credit making.

Interesting you say this because WG admittted in a Q&A that they probably overbuffed it. And that wasn't even that long ago.

preferential mm still works. You'll see more tier 9 latches now , but as long as you don't get into tier 10, what's the problem?

I explained it in my other thread. When you play a tier 8 tank you see a ton of tier 8 tanks, a lot of tier 9 tanks and almost no lower tiers. PMM tanks always reigned supreme because they faced a lot of lower tier tanks. Now they mostly see battles that are either tier 8-9 or full tier 8. PMM tanks are at a disadvantage when they are fighting only same/higher tier tanks and it just makes more sense to play an overpowered normal matchmaking premium now because the worst case scenario is facing 3 tier 10s.

Scroll down to see the tier 8 matchmaking chart, it's pretty ugly:

http://forum.worldof...orth-your-time/

2% of the tanks I faced were tier 6 and around 7% were tier 9. The rest are tier 8-10. Even though PMM tanks don't see tier 10s, probably at least 85-90% of the tanks they face are tier 8-9 and that's not really fun when you have 167 penetration. Why play tanks that specialize on beating tanks they barely ever meet?

yes rip... the hit to pmm was so hard that wg should offer our money back, I paid for a pre 9.18 mm... not for an underpowered gold spam tanks with almost standart mm.

I feel offended and scammed... imo is similar to remove our permanent payment tanks from garage, since I dont like to play them anymore. Wg go full greedy

On the other hand, in the old days, being top tier was often meaningless, because three quarters of the team was top tier as well. Basically the same as a one tier only match. These days, if you're top tier, it's like a banquet. Especially in a KV5, which is pretty much immune to tier 6 and 7s.

Yep, the problem is that since 9.18 PMM premiums rarely see tier VII and basically never see tier VI any more. It's mostly same tier matches, which sounds great until you realise just how many tanks have been introduced at tier VIII that are very difficult or outright impossible for tanks like KV-5 or IS-6 to penetrate frontally even with premium ammo.

Being top tier has always been a big deal if we don't count the obvious one tier fights. KV-5 is my Per's most played tank and I actively played it until the matchmaking changes and it was always a fantastic tank. I had no issues in battles where both teams had 6-7 tier 8 tanks. You can fight same tier tanks with a KV-5, there are just a couple of ugly tanks you can't. It's just that if you're going to be seeing almost only tier 8-9 tanks you are better off playing a tank that can do more than "can somewhat fight them".

The reason to play preferential matchmaking for me was to avoid those unplayable aids fests with tons of tier 10 tanks where you couldn't do anything. This made the PMM tanks more consistent and more fun because although you were always playing a technically underwhelming tank for its tier, you also always had a relevant tank. Now the worst case scenario of a normal matchmaking tier 8 tank is seeing 3 tier 10 tanks so having the technically superior tank to fight tons of tier 8-9 tanks makes more sense.

On the other hand playing tanks like Löwe is now more rewarding than ever because you mostly see tier 8-9 tanks and a few 10s and Löwe is good at fighting such tanks. It has become my new "KV-5" as the reliable generalist heavy tank of tier 8. Tanks that are good at farming lower tiers are seeing a decline in performance while the tanks that retain their strengths against same tier tanks and even against higher tiers are what you should be playing now.
