Can someone tell me why this take is considered one of the worst? I was looking at it on tanks.gg as i was thinking of going down this line and cant figure it out.. Its armour can pull off some bounces, its reload is good, its accuracy is good, decent mobility, and with perks and optics the view range is above 445. I honestly cant figure out why its hated

It's utter garbage and my least played tank. The shells are so slow you can watch them move slowly across the screen as enemy tanks move out of the way like in the movie the matrix. The gun traverse is just funny as fuk, the gun is almost static like on one of the new swedish td's if enemy moves a milimetre you have to traverse whole tank and wait for recticle to zoom in again. Armour does get bounces but its few and far between. Just don't buy it, you have been warned.

Terrible gun handling, terrible armor, terrible gun arc which means you'll have to move a lot to aim, therefore lose your camo while because of traversing. Terrible shell velocity as well.

This is the first and only tier 10 I've ever sold. This is just the worst tier 10 TD and there's no doubt about it.

It's mediocre at everything and doesn't stand out with anything.

On a good day, you will bounce shots and get high damage roles, however its blind (Russian view range) and as mentioned above its slow shell velocity and ToF makes it a mediocre TD for long range shots. So tend to play it as an assault gun.

It indeed seems good on paper. However, let me explain why Object 268 is so awful:

Firstly, it has terrible gun arc. This means it has to move very often when it wants to change the target. That itself is not that big problem. However, it also has absolutely atrocious bloom values, so when it turns, it loses lots of accuracy. And then, it has terrible aim time, almost twice as long as Grille. And as icing cake, it has derp gun levels of shell velocity.

The shell velocity means that you have to lead target quite alot, but then you poor aim time, and poor aim time is made even worse by bad bloom when turning, and then you have terrible gun arc. Due to this, sniping anything that isnt stationary is borderline impossible and almost pure RNG.

And finally, due to the bad velocity, you have horrible shell arc, which will mean that at long ranges shell tends to go over targets and makes leading your target even more rage-including, and slightly reduces effectiveness of otherwise one of few good things about 268, the AP penetration.

Due to this, the base accuracy stat of 268 is literally irrelevant. It doesnt feel more accurate than ISU-152 despite whopping 0.09 better base accuracy, because ISU has much better shell velocity, better gun arc and most hilarously, slightly better bloom when turning. And same alpha and almost same DPM. 2 tiers lower.

This means that 268 isnt good sniper in most scenarios, and even worse is the fact that maps doesnt even favor sniping that much. The problem is, 268 also sucks at close ranges.

You cant poke from ridges and use that somewhat okish casemate armor, as the gun is located high and depression is crap. The gun arc means that you have very hard time to poke from corners, and even worse is the bloom and aim time so you HAVE to sit still if you want to aim, because the bloom means your shot could go anywhere even at close range. And then you have to reverse into cover.

The armor is not bad, but it also is not good. There is literally no reliable way to use it. You almost never can hulldown as i already said, and you cant sidescrape for obvious reasons. Due to this, you cant never rely on armor and you have to act like you dont have any, unless you fight stuff with less than 210 mm pen, which is basically just tier 8 mediums that refuses to fire gold, and they can flank you, anyways.

And as icing cake, 268 is filled with modules. Driver dies always like with Russian tanks, entire side casemate is filled with ammoracks and it also gets blown up easily (when i played it, from like 80 battles my ammorack got destroyed from FULL HEALTH atleast 3 times, likely more), and due to fuel tanks are weak and big it is risky to run food, which is what 268 desperately needs to tame down the horrible bloom a bit.

268 excels at nothing, Grille outclasses it as sniper and so does Strv 103, while E3 is much better assault tank. Basically 268 is "slightly better assault tank than 103B" and "slightly better sniper" than lets say 183 but it still sucks at both. It is supposed to be all arounder TD yet it is only good all arounder at sucking at everything.

Fortunately, devs finally realized that 268 needs love and they confirmed on Grand Finals that it will be buffed.

^^

ISU is where the line truly ends. The 704 isnt that great, either. Its literally ISU tier higher with 600 more HP. The armor is troll but like 268 it is very unreliable no matter how you use it, even more than 268 because it has lots of weak areas that are like 180 effective. So in one match you get penned by tier 8 meds but in next match you bounce T10 TDs. The gun is effectively same as ISU (the accuracy buff and RoF buff werent even noticeable for me) and as it is tier higher, 750 alpha at tier 9 feels much less special than 750 on tier 8.

Definitely not stop there.

The 704 is a good improvement on the usual and one of the original end of the line TD's

I really enjoyed it and still do.
