Edit- The short version.. already got what appears to be a few "no it does not answers" from forumites that seem certain about it but my question was/is, does the displayed hole on a tank made by a successful penetration create a permanent weak spot that can be used to aim at and guarantee the next shot goes in too? Or switch to HE, aim at the hole and send that in through instead doing much more hp, crew and modular damage?

Obviously in the real world a big gaping hole of shredded metal in the side of tank or whatever is a major weak-spot and would be targeted again to shoot through it but this is just a game so maybe not the case. Thought there may be the potential to use an APCR to crack that Maus open and then switch back to AP or HE and aim at that created chink in the armour without wasting more APCR or indeed may not have any left.

There is no physical hole so nope...not working like IRL where a hole is not going to stop the next shell hitting the exact same spot. You hit, it rolls for pen, damage , crit etc. +-25% RNG

You played 12k+ battles and you still haven't noticed you can't use the shell hole as a weakspot to put HE through it?

It would be a cool mechanic. In real life a hit with HE could shatter armour plating over a wide area (That's what the KV2 did) leaving the vehicle completely vulnerable. AP rounds could do the same if the armour was low quality steel.

Would be nice no? And also lean towards rewarding skill by which you load a gold round or pick a weak spot which requires not simply using auto-aim.. then, still while using free aim, pick out that same chink you've just made in that armour and aim at it getting the extra damage and potential critical hits for literally making lighting strike the same place twice

AW models armour plates I believe so subsequent hits to the same point aren't deflected but WOT treats every hit on a plate as if it's the first.

Would I ask? Is this information written somewhere in the game guide because I never saw it and tbh if I was in close quarters combat, yes, I would aim for the hole I'd just made and assumed if I did hit there again it would go in with much more certainty which it does though this is more than likely just because it's weak spot anyway and I never actually tried to switch and try sending a HE shell through that hole

Ok all the predictably dull and promiscuous comments aside?

In this context comments cannot be promiscuous, only people.

But this comment of mine is indeed dull, I grant you that.

Well I do know there is some value in shooting the same spot over again. If you aim at the side of a turret where ammo is often stored or hull where you know there to be the ammo rack or fuel tank, this will cause the ammo to exploded sending the turret into orbit(So cool)) or set the tank on fire. We know this because when we ourselves get shot in those areas it both gets reported by a crew member and displayed as a picture on screen.. if our ammunition rack damaged our reload is also horribly slow or if our fuel tank is reported as hit, if not repaired then the next shot in that area will certainly cause an ammo rack explosion or a fuel tank/engine to catch fire.. though this may also happen immediately with the very first shot if the stated damage tolerance is over matched by gun who's stated modular damage is greater, like a TD with a big ol boom stick hitting the ammo rack of a delicate LT or something so I wasn't complete mad for thinking a hole on a tank could be exploited as a weakspot

If that would work, it would be an important core mechanic. And those tend to be written down somewhere... and actively used in the game.

But it is useful to note that when you have hit a spot and penned that you can aim at it and with luck hit near there again

Hitting the same place will only help if you are causing module damage, and the health of that module is great than you r damage, so over a number of shots you could know that out. (like tracks, or engine, or fuel tank etc)
