I have finally decided to grit my teeth and grind a new line. I have got as far as the tier 6... which I hate. I have never heard anything particularly positive about the panthers, and imagine they would be a slog. too. Looking at the numbers, I'm wondering if the e50m might be a bit frustrating to play, in the current gold-spam climate. It's annoying having a tank with armour, which doesn't work as it should, after all. Can any E50m vets put my mind at rest?

The 88mm gun that was added to the Panther II from the E50 makes the grind a lot better then what it used to be.  Of course, once you obtain that gun.

The Stock E50 grind used to be seriously painful to those who did not apply liberal amounts of ""Free"" XP.

EDIT:

The tier 6-8 on this line should be played as bush kemping cowards.  Excellent snipers with perma-tracking ability due to ROF.

The tier 9-10 can be both bush kemping coward snipers, and battering rams (I completed the ram kill missions for the t28-260 using the E50, including a game with 4 ram kills with the E50) and classic medium play with sort of HT armor.

Absolutely nothing is worth the grind anymore. Teammates at higher tiers are worse than ever. Tier 6 teams better than tier10s

I still like playing my E50M... it can take and give a beating.

I like the E50M. I´m not doing very well in it (my first TX) but I really enjoy playing it! I would absolutely grind it again if I had to.

thanks for your responses. I tend to do better in autoloading tier 10s (who doesn't?) but fancy something different. I guess I will stick with it.

My first tier 10 (originally went for leo 1 but switched mid-way), and I am enjoying every bit of it. There is a massive switch of playstyle between tier 5-8 and 9-10.

I feel e50m is just so flexible as it can both be a semi-heavy, a sniper, a spotter (yes you have armor and I equip it with optic) or a true medium. The only drawback with e50 IMO is its mobility and pen, but giving it both you just have a e50m.

Hated most of the grind with a passion but the tier 9 and 10 are well worth it.

Kind of a meh grind up to and including Panther II.

E50 is pretty awesome once fully upgraded, I loved it.

Don't have E50M although unlocked. I hear that tier for tier, it's not as good as E50.

However, it takes a while to grind up to a fully upgraded tier 9 tank. Do you have that amount of life to waste on that?

I really like the E50, like most of the tier IX meds I´ve played and I like the E50M as well, but I can not play it at all, like most tier X I´ve played. :(

E50M is still great and only a fool can think otherwise. It's all abot dem guns, armah and ramming speed yo. Turret is rather poor though. You can get occasional bounces, but it's nothing that special. Upper front plate on the other hand...If you can get to a position when you can cover your lower plate and show a little bit of your upper front plate - you are golden. Just remember about your turret.

As for E50 it's better tier for tier. That sweet mm of tier 9s is what makes this thing so special. It obliterates lower tiers. One problem with E50 is its AP pen. Well, for many it's a problem but you really don't have to spam APCR in E50.

Spoiler

My loadout is covered but I carry like 10 APCR rounds "only". E50 is known to be one of unicum's favourite toys and many of them play them full apcr + chocolate. You really don't have to play it like that and you can still get your 3 MoE. In a very few battles I used all 10 rounds. In many battles I didn't use any at all. I quess my average usage of apcr is like 2-4 rounds per battle.
tl;dr version : E50 is still very strong even without gold and prem consumables.

It's up to you.

If you really want to get E-50M, just go for it.

But wait until you reach tier VIII. This is the tier where real "fun" begins...

I loved this line so much that "meine frauleins" were committed to this line as soon as I'd decided that it was the way to go.

The E50M is not a Soviet hover tank as it's not quite as mobile as the T62A/Obj 140/Obj 430.  What it is is a medium range heavy medium tank that can if needed brawl with the best of them using the hull armour to level the DPM difference between it and the faster firing meds.

Hide the lower plate and front sprockets and the angled upper plate can have a practical effective armour of almost 400mm with autobounce sides (up to 240mm guns) and HEAT absorbing tracks.  With standard APCR pen of 270 (from tanks.gg) there's no real need to carry load of HEAT ammo either.  Couple that with 0.3 accuracy and 2.01 aim time as standard and a fully "equipped" 0.28 dispersion and 1.93 aim time (no chocolate) the effective DPM of this tank is gettng close to it's theoretical DPM.  Could do with a little bit of a RoF buff.

I prefer it to the Leo 1 (the other german TX med) as you've traded mobility for survivability.

TLDR: still relevant, buy it #Ramming Speed.

Again thanks for replies. Yeah, grinding through the tier 8 pain barrier clearly sucks in any line these days. I have been sticking to my existing tier Xs mostly because of it... I might just forget about 50m for a while, thinking about it. Obj 140 cheap next month and I have it unlocked, so maybe that would be the less soul-destroying course.

If you're not an unicum, is in current game state any grind just lots of frustration. :(

Yeah I am grinding top gun for my Leo prototype, it's just frustrating even when all the other modules are mounted. Not fun at all.

E50M is good, it's always been a solid tank whatever the meta and changes in the game.  Very similar to the E100, it is just a good solid tank, nothing spectacular about it, the Russian meds are clearly better but it'll perform if you know what you are doing.

Plus the ramming is always fun and nothing in the game rams like an E50M.

Also premium ammo is not a worry, despite the claims people do not generally spam the premium on tier 10, and even less against mediums, sure you'll find the odd person, and if you happen to have a Maus/Type 5 near you then expect HEAT to come your way, but E50M has enough armour to be a bit forgiving and enable you to get some bounces where other tanks won't.

As for the line, it's better than it used to be. VK 30.02.M had some recent buffs, so did Panther IIRC, -8 gun depression, good DPM, the high pen generally means you don't need to aim for too long against most targets.

Panther 2 got the super long 88 which has improved it a little and got a gun depression buff as well. Also unlocking that gun makes the E50 grind a lot easier now as the E50 with the super long 88 has 3k base DPM and actually more base pen than the 105.

E50 is a solid tank, used to be excellent but suffers a little against the Japanese heavy and Maus spam as it doesn't have a high pen premium round.

So.. it is worth the grind if you made the mistake of starting to grind the German MT line instead of the Soviet one, but essentially less so if you have already got high up on the Soviet MT line?

It not being the best tank doesn't mean it isn't worth the grind IMO.

Otherwise we'd all be playing the same 2-3 tanks, plus the E50M is one of those tanks, that is versatile and is able to play a role in virtually every map and is still relevant in a changing meta.

It's also good, but not good enough that it'll get nerfed, whereas hopefully one day the Rasha meds will get nerfed.

Plus it's weird combo of armour, very accurate high pen gun, ramming ability means you can't really get a similar package on tier 10. Nothing really plays like an E50M IMO.
