RIP Cent 7/1, AMX30 proto was already better, now it's getting better turret and better dispersion to go with it so just making it completely flat out better.
Changing the TDs to 120mm autoloader makes sense.

They want to change the play style for a more pro-active one. Instead of sniping from far you should be closing distance and shooting on the move more.
And how is that supposed to work on many of the terrible choke-point heavy maps we have in the game? And even on the better maps trying that in the first half of the game usually ends with finding an auto-loader or TD hiding in the back that sends you back to garage. Not to mention artillery and their bigger splash radius...
A playstyle needs to be viable.
I'm not certain the game needs more autoloaders, and especially in TD's. It might make them more vulnerable to flanking/pushing at times, but if they can reload well in advance of most repair times then it's going to be interesting if you get tracked.
That said, the French TD line isn't really popular so it might be an opportunity to try and breathe more life into it.

Playing meds and lights is much harder on certain maps, that's not something new. I don't need to tell you how to adapt, right?

I more meant specifically changing the 155 from a 750 alpha gun to a 400.
But then I've just noticed it has 6 shells if I am reading this correctly and thus 2400 burst damage in 10s. Which I am not in favour of.

I wouldn't feel sad in the Japanese heavies got given 1mm armour all round, that would be a great day.

STB-1 is a medium range hull down brawler and that works.
I'd also presume they want to differentiate these tanks from the Leopards, because at the moment the Leopard pta/1 does pretty much the same role as the AMX 30s.

Press "2" and spam HEAT? At least sadly that seems to be the "adaptation" WG has in mind with that pen reduction. I mean let's be real here, the most notorious gold spammers are those tanks that have lower than average penetration. How many T-54 do not spam HEAT? Or those Czech auto-loaders? On tier X for example tanks with less than 250mm pen seem to be way more likely to spam HEAT at you no matter what tank you are in compared to tanks with more than 250mm penetration.
At least that's what my hitlog mod clearly tells me. And Wargaming must know that as well since they have all the data available to them.
Kinda, because teh STB-1 has good gun depression and a decent turret which makes a rather small target to hit when hull-down. That Frenchy on the other hand with that stupid big hat on the turret... gl with that.

They might aswell aim the ridge before you even go up... Ever thought about that? And it's not like that cupola is small, any of the Soviet mediums can just snap shot it most of the time.
