Hi tankers,

I am wondering if the graphic settings affect the ability to spot enemy tanks.

It happens very often that I am in camouflage mode (standing still, behind hushes, with camouflage net) with a small profile tank waiting for enemy tanks to appear, and still they spot me even shoot me while I cant even see them. In fact it happens that I get shot by a japanese heavy, not that hard to spot, while it is driving towards me and shooting at me, and still I cant see them. This happens while there are no other enemy tanks around that could have spotted me, since they were already dead or on the other part of the map.

This is very frustrating and I am wondering if this might be caused by the low graphic settings I have to run since my computer is kinda old.

Please let me know if the graphics settings do affect my visibility range/ability.

Thanks in advance.

I believe it does not.
Do you have a replay of said battle?

Thanks for your quick response.

What else can be the cause of me getting shot without seeing the tank shooting at me from rather close range (atleast well within my viewing range)?

I don't have a replay of the battle, but it happens more often, thats why it is frustrating.

But it wouldnt surprise me if it happens because I am doing something wrong ;)

Just want to be clear it doesnt happen because of my low (lowest) graphic settings.

It is already hard enough to play with 15-20 fps :)

Was the bush transparent in sniper mode? If not you were likely blocking your own vision with it.

Were you sitting in the bush with nothing but the gun barrel sticking out of the bush? It is possible the front was visible which is a 'detection' point (at the gun barrel base)

Do you have a good crew (and proper crew) for your light tank? what is your view range? Tier?

Edit: Wiki has a nice image of the spotting checkpoints.  http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Battle_Mechanics#Spotting_Mechanics

It's hard to understand what is happening without the replay.
There might have been another light tank spotting you from another angle without you spotting him? as your crew might be bad and his being very good?

Could there be some delay in rendering spotted tanks due du slow computer? (Not sure if this is possible)

Was your tanks spottable "checkpoints" covered entirely by the bush?

See, lots of factors here :)

pointless to discuss without a replay....activate them in the options and upload it to wotreplays.com when it happens again

edit: and ofc share the link with us :)

Thanks all for the overwhelming response, this realy helps me forward!

I think the info Comrade_Renamon  mentioned is making things more clear for me. Most likely I was not positioned in the right place.

also the switching between viewrange ports might be the reason I dont see the enemy tanks in time, which ofcourse is bad luck and I own a large amount of that ;)

So I think the reason for me being shot is my lack of skill and my surplus of bad luck (in a 80/20 ratio) ;)

At least I am glad I do not have to buy a new computer to stay in the game!

Again, thanks all for the helpful replies!

Edit: I will also activate replay just in case it happens again...

Major kudo's to you mate, you came to the forum with a well laid out problem and considered it may be your fault. Refreshing change from the usual 'hack', 'cheat' posts. As others have said though it's well worth saving your replays, they are tiny and watching them back can help to explain a lot of things for good/bad/new/experienced players alike.

Yes and no. No it can't as it all server based. Not based on what your setting client is. And yes, as low graphic settings might fool you to think the cover is taller then it is. As lower settings givers more straighter lines on terrains or building. So their textures is bigger then their hitbox etc. That and some bushes might seem smaller they they actually are. Thus giving you more cover then you think.

But there is also a hit indicator that is rather accurate now. If there is only one bush in that direction... then it's obvious where to blind fire. As you did not say if you had 6th sense or not. Only that you got hit. But if you got spotted, then make sure you are 15m behind the bush, not inside it. As the further behind it you are, the harder you will be to spot vs when you are standing right behind it, or inside it etc.

Be sure to set the "maximum drawing distance" within the game settings. That is useful regardless what is your actual problem.

Also, keep the "textures quality" at least on middle, the other graphical things can be reduced without drawbacks.

Good thing you are asking and not immediately claiming hacks like certain individuals.

Here are some videos that might help you a bit.
