A tank that does not end up in tier X games most of the times.

Wait for WG to fix tier 8 MM. If you need it for crew training, take the nation you need the most. :girl:

There are 2 reasons to buy premiums, credits and crew training. Afaik the M4A1 Rev is the better credit maker, as for crew training you should know better than me what nation mediums you have.

I have both and would say Rev as you can take your shot, hit for good damage (so good earner) and hide waiting for your next shot.  The STA is a good tank, but as you have to hit twice for the same damage as the Rev you have to expose yourself more often.

it depends on what you like

do you like slow moving "sniper" style meds? (of which, both of these are) both have no armour or the "Punch" required for the brawling meta

the rev can do it with its 390 alpha, but you'll need to know the weakspots with 200mm APCR, and because of its size, it cannot hide easily, you'll also get owned by HE firing guns, much like the STA will

STA is faster though, lower alpha, but higher pen, so weakspots may not matter quite as much as in the rev

the rev can be good, but your out classed in TX, and id assume that's also the same for the STA, though the tank is smaller and can ridge line, so perhaps, it can make a difference, i have not played the STA-2 to make that kind of claim

personally, id just by the skorp G, its not a med tank, but its better than both in every way...

Personally I'd get a different tier prem tank right now since tier 8 is broken

I got a few of them gathering dust right now just because I don't enjoy playing that tier.

Buying tier 8 mediums is just an accident waiting to happen. Underpowered tanks in a tier that has plenty of far more powerful tanks and that also suffers from broken matchmaking. Do yourself a favor and don't buy yourself a bad tank just because you want to "only" invest 30€ instead of 40€. It's not saving money if you're going to buy another premium in a few months because you hate your tank.

Contrary to a popular belief, the biggest waste of money isn't the most expensive tank. It's the one that sucks and you hate playing.

I don't own STA-2, but I played STA and I own Mutz which is somewhat similar, with worse gun handling. I find M4A1 to be better overall. You have good gun handling and shell velocity with APCR , thus making it very confortable to play at medium/close range, plus 390 alpha which makes it trade better when you need to. Think T-34-3, without the derpiness of the gun.

You lose a bit penetration with standard rounds, but you can place your shots better. It feels M4A1 comes with "Hitscan" rounds, contrasting with STA-2's much slower round (1.4k vs 850 with STA-2's AP rounds). Survivability wise, I'd say STA-2 is better due to smaller profile, greater mobility and better camo, while armor wise they both have almost none. In the viewrange department, M4A1 wins with a 10m margin, but STA-2 is still better when you need a bit of scouting.

When facing heavily armored vehicles, STA-2 has a 275mm HEAT while M4A1 gets 250mm HEAT. But STA-2 has slower rounds and lower alpha, which means you might struggle with hitting targets and must expose yourself longer, while it eats your profits. I'd rather avoid having to expose my tank twice as much and wait to place a higher alpha round for the same effect.

Can't tell you anything about M4A1, but talking about STA-2, it's almost exactly the same just like STA-1.

Only STA-1's main cannon is much better than STA-2's.

In my opinion, both of these Premium tanks are not worth it to buy.

It's better to keep money for yourself.

Tbh, just don't buy a tier 8 premium med (unless it's the lorraine and you are a skilled player as a possible exception)

Both are good. M4 is more of a sniper which is fine because you have high velocity shells that hit really hard. STA2 you have great gun depression and good rate of fire with decent pen which is good if you like active play. Choose what suits you best.

Well, 6mm difference in penetration and ~60m/s shell speed. STA-2 is also much faster, and only really pays for it with a somewhat higher profile.

Else, gotta agree. M4A1 and Lorraine 40t can still work fairly well, but something like the Patriot works much better and easier most of the time.

VK4503 is a more relevant choice, and makes credits about on-par with a T8 prem. That aside, a month of premium is probably the best option if you've got money burning in your pocket.

Get a Skorpion G.

It's a medium tank with Jagdtiger's gun in a turret.

I have both. Rev is something different due to its gun and especially becaus of that incredible shell velocity.I never thought that a spec like shell velocity could have that kind of positive effect on increasing the fun in the gameplay. of the tank. It is the delicious combination of sniper/support.

But i think its better to wait this upcoming soviet medium STR or SRT or somethin like that which i cannot memorise anymore since wg is like a rabbit when it comes to produce new premiums.

According to its stats, it will be powercreep to Rev.

Do not buy sta-2 unless you desperately need japnese medium crew trainer and even in that case i suggest  chi-nu kai when it receives %50 discount which is a very frequent thing.

I like the STA-2 and own the Rev (haven't actually played it yet ) and in all honesty I can't recommend buying any tier VIII premium tanks at this point. MM is skewed to put you in tier X matches a majority of the time (not 90% like some claim, but there's a significant bias), and nearly all of the old premium tanks have been powercrept into borderline obsolescence by the new generation. If you're looking to grind credits you'll want something like a Defender or T26E5; something that doesn't have to fire premium ammo at half the heavy tanks in its own tier and isn't utterly outclassed when bottom tier.

The only old premium that I would consider worth buying (when discounted) is Löwe, as it has an accurate high penetration gun with good depression and a strong turret. Rather poor mobility and DPM though, and the hull armour isn't anything to write home about.

Or if we go one step further, nothing is worth buying as the next generation of premium tanks will have to outclass the current crop of OPremiums in order to entice people to actually want to spend money on them.

Don´t have the STA-2 but the Rev is actually one of only 3 premiums that are still playable after the new MM killed tier 8 and all the other Prems. As a bonus the Rev also makes a good amount of money and is good fun to play!

Skorpion is better in every way though so you might want wait until its on sale again.

Exchanged my FCM for the Rev. Smartast thing I have done in WoT...

Wait for 30% discount offer coming on the 7th and see what appeals.

Its true there is a problem with tier 8 right now whether its fixed with the next update or not we have no idea, I suppose it depends on whether they have worked out why it messed up.

Only problem with the sale is that its one tank per day its unlikely they will let you know whats coming in advance so know what you want.

Lucky for you the STA2 and Revelorise can be tried out on the test server
