I am seeing this more and more... enemy shells miss me - I see and hear them flying close by - but then it seems there was a disagreement between client and server, because despite the shell first missing me in my client, it then scores a hit half a second later !?!

Does anyone experience the same?

What does it say about game mechanics?

To be honest, I sometimes see that happening with my own shells too. They seem to miss the target, but then score a hit on a tank that stands two meters away from where I shot.

On the replays, there is no trace of that happening.

I guess it has something to do with my ping, I usually have around 235 ping.

It's interesting to actually see something happening on the screen, and then the game server makes a different decision.

I think that shows RNG at work. When the shot is fired, the game client registers the shot and its vector, so the shot that missed is the real shot, and then the server decides that the shot in fact has hit. My slow ping causes the RNG "correction" to reach my client after the real shot missed already.

What are your thoughts?

235ms ping? I get playing 220ms using cell usb stick, playing from South Africa, so where the heck are you based then? I thought, judging by username Germany or Austria (though I suppose Namibia or Tanzania would account for ping that high).

Oh as for the weird shots, it's definitely ping, get those too on bad days.

Pretty sure it is the lag you're suffering from.

Try wired if possible.

Video made quite a while ago by one of the current developers (special projects expert) Murazor (see the start/end of this clip).

I am on wired.  actually, my ping is pretty good for the distance to the server. near the speed of light!

I might be as far away from EU servers as South Africa - but the underwater cable to my location is definitely longer.

Get a better internet connection? When my internet crapped out I used my phone as a wi-fi hotspot and the game was still quite playable at ~75ms ping via 4g. I live in EU and even on the NA server I don't go above 150ms.

Ok now I'm intrigued, what country meets that criteria?

Well he might have moved from Europe to Asia for job reasons, also have you seen the standard of play on SE-Asia server, there's a reason most Australians play on the NA West server.

You're experiencing lag-related issues and the solution is to play on the server of your region. What am I missing?

Have you tried NA? You might get a better result on that server.

Nowhere in my opening post I complained about what's happening nor about my ping.

When I compain, I usually make it pretty clear.

My post is about the game mechanics and how a shot and its results get "corrected" by the server after it has been shot.

It's about game mechanics, not a complaint about lag. See the point now?

By extension... this means shots can be fired in the direction of targets without really aiming, and for some of them RNG will "correct" them to hit the target where it hurts.

Wait did I miss some patch notes regarding being able to change server whilst keeping your account?

He drowned on land (Паблус! Паблус, я тону! Я тону на земле!)... What does it say about game mechanics?

I say - everything is exactly like it should be, nothing to worry about.

What you explained in your OP is an issue caused by your ping. The client thinks the shell missed and the server corrects this shortly after. The solution is to lower your ping by playing on a different server. There's nothing else you can do about this. It's not a "game mechanic". You're lagging and probably experiencing packet loss as well. It's similar to the rubberband effect in FPS games. I sometimes watch Netflix while playing, which can cause ping spikes up to 300ms and then I experience the exact same thing as you, including my tank seemingly teleporting around.

No, but there is no other way for him to fix this situation. He can keep his account and keep experiencing this, or he can switch servers.

And the answer is.

It is nothing to do with the game mechanics, it's to do with your lag from the server. The information you are seeing displayed on your client is well behind everyone else on the EU server.

It really isnt rocket science to figure out.

Enemy tank sees: Fire - Hit - You retreat. He gets the correct information, because he took the shot.

You see: You retreat, He fires, He misses ..... He hits. This is because your client is attempting to send information to the server which it then has to correct.
