Stats and old-timers.

"Old-timers" being both some players, and some tanks.

 

As game changes happen (to say nothing of the player-base), it becomes less accurate to refer to old stats indicating current prowess.

 

Take "Bert", for instance. Was small, fast; then was BIG, but still fast; then was BIG with hugely nerfed penetration.

 

Comparing the results of 100 games in 2014 with 100 games now can't be done.

Irrelevant since Bert has been the same for everyone all the time.  If I could play with a 2014 Bert while everyone esle has a 2107 model then that's when there'd be an issue.

The point is that referring to old stats is not really relevant.

 

Jabster, can you see that?

 

JuliusCheddar, no solution, "just sayin'", although it might be interesting to have "historical" stats plottable, difficult to say how/whether.

 

Hedgehog63 - it's about historical stats, not current play. Someone who played a vehicle ages ago might find it different today (easier, not so easy), and old stats do not necessarily reflect current ability in a vehicle.

 

Zen_Monk_: yes, quite. As seen all the time. XVM in-game stats are unhelpful too. Mine stats drift up; no special efforts made; they will plateau... so let them, they are of academic interest only.

 

Joggaman: Yes, that sems like a good illustration ( watched your old replay of May, 2013 just now: "Wait I flank"! :) ).

Maybe stats should only go back two or three months.  Then they'd be more relevant.  Who cares how good someone was at tier 1.

Which is why recent performance is taken into account as well for any stat related decisions that matter. So if ones recent performance is equal or better than their past performance then you can safely assume both indicate the relative skill of the player accurately.

In fact, the whole stat system is complete BS now. 

If you have over a dozen thousands of games on your account, winrate is no longer a good indicator - it takes hundreds of games to change anything by a single %. There should be a way to see recent winrate/stats (I mean within the game client, not through unreliable third party sites that track stats). Perhaps WG should think about something like "seasons" that MOBAs do - when after major patches you get a new "start" but can still see your overall stats or stats for specific season - would be far more relevant than overall stats we have now.

 

Speaking of vehicles changing significantly - sometimes the game holds stats for incorrect vehicles.

The prime example is FV4202 once it was still a tier 10 medium. When it got replaced by Centurion Action X, your stats did NOT reset. They carried over as if Centurion AX was FV4202, which is absolute bollocks. For instance - I'm pretty sure I'm doing far better in Centurion than I ever did in FV, but I can't verify that, because my stats are still spoiled by the time I sucked in FV4202...
