It's uncanny how many times when playing artillery, I get oneshot by the enemy arty,

Last game I fired one shell and within about 5 seconds I got hit by arty and killed even though I was not spotted, how can they do this?

I know that whoever I'm shooting at can see the direction of the shot but surely other players can't

Do they have some sort of mod to track my shot?

Can someone tell me what's going on, then maybe I can avoid this in the future

thanks

the legit way would be tracers

since arties might be limited to certain spots if you took there you can see a trace after each shot taken, you see it you aim there and shot  if the other arty is stupid it didnt moved after shooting

also completly fine : if im shot by an arty i can watch the marker  press enter and tell my team: arty at k7  so they might watch out  to counterbattery

less legit : red ball mod taking the tracers and marking the positions where the enemy arty was when shooting

still  the best way to act in any case is  : move after the shot   even a few meters can save you  and if not hitting  the enemy arty might go after other targets

When you shoot with arty. A tracer is shown for everyone. If enemy arty looks, they can pin point your location with ease.

You should get used to it.

Players have been investing a lot lately in counter-battery, which makes total sense, by the way.

And no. I don't believe they use any mod for that matter since SPG shell's tracers are visible to everyone. If, they are, I don't think they'll stick around for too long anyway.

To answer the question, they do the follow:

They enter in Strategic view in places where SPGs are likely to be on the enemy side. As soon as an enemy SPG fires and the tracer is within their monitor, they put their aiming point right behind the source of the tracer. More often than not, that will make an SPG temporarily disabled. You don't need to be spotted because they can simply track you by your gun's activity, fallen trees, etc.

This is why it is important, now more than never, to relocate after any shot. Happened to me a lot in Mines. I usually got the first kill of all games but the second one belong to the enemy SPG and my contribution came to a halt.

Basically, they are doing something that others believe it's not possible in SPG Class: use skill

You got counter-battery fire. There are maps where arty locates in predictable positions and fail to move after a shot. On those maps, especially if there are 2-3 arty, I will look at those spots during a long reload. When I see your tracer, I have you. Your best plan is to move after you shoot. The artillery men (the real ones) call it "shoot and scoot."

Always move after the first shot, then if there is a splash you know they are countering. if not... then they are not looking in your area... for now. As most arty players if there is more then 1 arty pr team usually moves the sight over to the usual firing positions for arty and wait for a tracer.

There, fixed it for you. Pointing the crosshair to the origin of a tracer and clicking the left mouse button takes a lot of skill, indeed :teethhappy:

You ommited what preceded the quoted statement to validate your point, a recurring practice in this Discussion Board.

Please, do tell me where did I say that it takes a lot of skill, or stop putting words in my mouth.

It's not the point/click part that takes the skill - it's having a good idea of WHERE to look, and the patience to wait till you see the tracer before firing...

This is how I get most of my arty kills - by counter-battery using this exact method! And then, yes, use that interminable reload time to haul [edited]to another firing point just in case there's an arty on the other team with a tiny, tiny clue...

Yes, there is such arty mod.

I shot  with my arty.

it went to the wall, so there was NO tracer.

Yet, the enemy arty shot exactly to my location. .

An other arty player who doesn't even know how to play arty...

Yaccay there is a tracer line when you shoot your arty, its clear white line and looking at the most used arty spots you can see it easily.

But hey of course its always better to scream hacks and cheats.

Just remember to report those players too... like a true pleb.

If you'd shoot the wall you'd die, strongly advised for arty players, BTW. If it went into the air before it hit the wall then there was a tracer. Pretty sure you don't have a replay of that game.

seems like it

its about not knowing the game

arty blindshot a usual scoutbush ?  if it hits must be cheat

so lacking the knowledge about tracers  was it for the OP

Reduced, not removed so it is harder to spot than before.

just play a single arty game and you see the tracers yourself, you dont even need to look for other ppl tracers just watch the target you shot at about 3-5 secs after you fired you will see your shot/tracers approach your target

afaik the history of tracers had been:

active for every class  than their was a mod problem using theses tracers

next all tracers were deactivated

than they came back into the game but just for spgs  after that there had just been visibility tweaks
