Hello Commanders !

Since the 0.9.19.1 patch has arrived I had some problems with the FPS in game, but when the micro patch has arrived this turned even more chaotic, and now it's unplayable !

I noticed this massive FPS drop in all type of battles, starting from Random Battle, trough Team Battles, to e-Sport Battles. The massive drop means that the game works fine and stable in 100 / 120 FPS, then out of nothing it drops down to 29 or even to 15 FPS. If I restart the game it works fine for a couple of minutes, then again it drops down to 29 - 35 or even to 15 FPS. I don't consider that this is normal for mid or high range video card, what is capable to play other games in 1080p or even in 4K without any problem, and then when it comes the time to play World of Tanks, everything fall apart.

Before I wrote to the Customer Support Center and here on forum, I did some tests with three different video cards starting from GTX 970 / GTX 1060 and GTX Titan Z, all with the same result. The tests was made first with a clean install without any mod, then I did an another test with the XVM and nothing has changed, here I have to mention that the game is on my SSD for the best performance. I used the latest nVidia drivers, the Windows is updated together with all the other drivers, and I not did any kind of OC for the video cards, just to avoid the problems.

The funny thing is that my friend has a Radeon R9 280X, and for him World of Tanks goes nice and well without any problem, both with the clean install and with mods. I don't understand what happened with the nVidia, that the FPS goes down so drastically out of nothing, and without any hardware problem. I wonder if you guys ever had this kind of problem, and if yes what was the solution ?

Spoiler

Not that it really helps, but it seems to be working fine with my GTX 970...

Perhaps it's not your graphics card, but something else in your system..? If there was an issue with one or several of Nvidia's cards, I am sure many more would have experienced the same issue. Personally I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980, and I have not had any problems.

Well I can play anything else outside World of Tanks in 1080p or in 4K, and also I can render 4K videos without any problem. I think maybe something with Windows, or with the drivers, or something with latest patch ... it's strange.

1070 here. Still can't get it to drop from the rock solid 120fps limit when maxed out on a 4k display.

Ssd won't have an effect on fps as game is now fully loaded at the start.

GTX 1080ti, no problems at all.

If using XVM uninstall it.

my son's got the 670 too, yet no chance of more than 20 FPS.

there must be another problem somewhere in the system

WoT is (still) much more CPU dependant than GPU, what processor does he have?

GPU : 2x GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition.

Is that two cards?  WoT used to have issues with SLI, the workaround was to not run the cards as SLI as I recall.

No problems here but I'm only running an old GTX 960

You don't say what version of Windows you are using (or if you did I missed it).

Using laptop with GTX840, don't laugh please, and found FPS is stable at around 45 ish:).

Also installed latest NVIDIA driver last night, still stable.

Only strange anomaly I have is when countdown siren goes off at 2 minutes, on encounter etc, FPS drops to around 10 for about 5 seconds, strange.

1060 here, no problems whatsoever. Have you monitored the temperatures while running wot? I know it sounds odd, because you said other applications are running fine, but you still might want to give it a try.

Intel Core i7 6950x (4.2 GHz). - That core was the extreme high end Broadwell E when it came out, and it was specifically made for overclocking. Have you overclocked it?

As standard (ie without the owner overclocking it) it came with Turbo Boost 3, which tried to push a single core to be the best core, and back when it was the top end, a single core was said to be able to hit 4.0ghz in single thread workloads. However back in 2016, it wasn't a perfect result if left to do it all by itself.

WoT was pretty infamous for putting alot of pressure on a single core.

WG have been working to try and spread the load WoT places on single cores to other cores. They have tended to do this in a pretty slow incremental fashion.

I suspect what your rig may have is an issue with the way WoT runs across the cores you have in your 6950. The recent patch may have altered a balance in the way the core ran. I would also expect it would be something that would be fixable by altering some of the core settings, and in particular if you have not overclocked then looking at the Turbo Boost 3 settings.

All the above is a guess and maybe wrong. Going to the support tab and running through making a ticket, they will ask lots of detailed questions about your rig, and hopefully find the setting needed. Please feel free to report back if my guess that it was a 6950 issue was right or wrong.

Do you have any mods installed? I had the exact same issue GTX 1070 and when I uninstalled all mods I had it back up to normal, later I did some research and found out that one particular mod was causing all the FPS drops. The Ingame WN8 calculator, since then I just never install it and fps is at steady 120 all the time.

 Probably.

My 570 in a core 2 machine managed 50fps with graphics maxed out

I've been experiencing something similar with a GTX 1080 Ti Xtreme Edition.  Not a severe as the OP (120fps to 40fps) but quitting and restarting WoT also seems to clear it for me.  Sill trying to narrow down when it happens - it doesn't happen every day.

OP - which mods do you run?

GTX 960, and haven't noticed any problems...

How far does frame rate have to drop before a human can even notice, does anyone know? Is it around the same point as TV/Movies?
