Used to belong to a Clan but 'resigned' sometimes platoon up in game but generally I like to play solo.

I found the other clan members really good but I felt somewhat stifled, perhaps a lone player at heart.

Platooning up in match, I am probably the worst tooner to play with as. Dunno about yourselves but on loading screen I generally have a loose plan, can quickly change depending on the flow of battle though and find toonmates also have there own plans, generally rightly or wrongly don't fit with mine.

So question is what's your thoughts, solo, platoon or clan and advantages/disadvantages.

You could try the in-game forumites channel (pw:play4fun) and say why you want to platoon. Some players do like to play as a team but there also seems quite a few who just platoon to have someone they know in the same battle.

I've always been in a clan but mostly 90% of games I play solo, joining a clan isn't just about toning up it's about the social aspect as well.  I play better solo and win more so I don't play in platoons very often apart from a couple of people I don't mind Lizzie,Thrael and a few others.

Banter on TS in toons makes the game much more enjoyable, suppose if your running PRs you'd be better off alone since you just want to get into the next battle asap/not waste any time.

As far as gameplay in toons goes, even with inexperienced players, I find that if toonmates have gone through some sort of team training program (WoT Uni start with a basic 5 week/lesson thing) or played regular team battles/skirmishes it's much easier to co-ordinate strategy.

I see solo playing as part of the grind tbh, it's nowhere near as much fun as playing in a clan/tooning on TS.

Tooning can be fun even under harsh mm but for only so long but it's still better than playing solo nowadays. Also tooning can make you a better player granted you play with guys at least around your skill level an better - not stats wise from being carried but mainly because you always have something you can learn and try to master gameplay wise from guys who know how to play. The maps may be small but there were still more than enough locations i didn't know i could use with certain types of tanks in certain situations.

Never bothered with a "real" platoon due to the intermittent nature of the time available to play (Although if play any more than I do I will probably be single again). But will toon up in battle if anyone asks, though I've never initiated one. Yet.

I mostly- and I mean well over 95% (probably much greater) of my games have been played- or at least started- solo.

I've occasionally conversed with players and gone on to play a few battles, but I like being solo. The main exception has been platooning with no 1 son, who hates it because we always lose; and, more recently, no 2 son with whom we do pretty much OK most of the time- albeit at tier II and III.

I feel a little restricted if I am in a platoon. I don't like to let a team down by not playing at my best, but to let a buddy down is even worse.

I have been in a clan. It was so long ago that I am not sure which one. Even though I didn't have to play in Companies or other clan battles, the pressure I felt to be there for them led me to quit after only a week or two and I have never been in another clan. Nor do I want to be.

Entirely depends on what you are looking for, which I guess from your post is a more relaxed attitude.

For me, I'll agree with Rooster

  • no disadvantages
  • advantages - Banter on TS, having a laugh with like minded folk, being on the same team as someone you know/have spoken with, shared experience.

Can't really speak of other clans, as  this is the only one I have been in, but in mine, an invitation to platoon means "Fancy a game or two" with no real thoughts to imposing strategy or tactics, just that shared community experience.. ..which is what I like.

Of my battle count I can say I played 40k ish in platoons with my friends and or clan mates

I have one mate that pretty much already knows what I'm thinking of doing when we enter a match... We played too many games together I'd say.
There is just something satisfying to know that there is at least one guy who has your back in battles and who focuses on the same tank you are.

Pretty much half of my games were with one friend. We'd pick similar tanks and once the battle stars... we'd each go our own way. Like literally we never have any plan - I like pushing whereas he likes to camp at the back. When I die, he calls me a noob and tells me to switch to camo and binos and camp with him. Whenever he dies, I call him a camper who didn't see a push coming even though he has plenty of time to look at the map.

He's a F2P player so we don't play a lot now since platoons get badly shafted in the new MM and he can't afford to spam full gold, like... *cough*... me.

Personally I have played all my games solo - and would rather random games are random, with platoons only being allowed 'in game'
Can we have an 'opt-out' button for no pre-organised platoons please ?

Wouldn't a single player game be better for you then? (not an attack just an observation)

Been in 2 clans during my time and both had good people in.  I just never really enjoy platooning.  I have very limited time to play and adding the restriction of playing at a certain tier or a certain way with a toon-mate never really fits in with what I want to be doing.  My PC is also in a place where I can't be talking so I only ever get the benefit of listening on voice coms.  Also tooning with much better players usually means I'm letting them down which I don't like to do.  It's a personal thing because like I say both clans have been filled with great people and I couldn't fault them for friendliness.

I guess one of the draws of WoT for me is the short game time and flexibility of just grabbing a quick game here and there.  Platooning removes a lot of those advantages.

I'd agree that you're not getting the most out of it but to me there's some fundamental difference between playing against real people and playing against the computer. I think of it like this, if they could develop tank AI that could replicate your average team it still wouldn't be a game I'd play.

Fair point

But taking the option away from other people is also not fair.

I'd stop playing pretty soon after that. But that's just me

There is a world of difference between playing against AI with predictable patterns of play, and playing against people with NO way to predict how it will go.
