Last night something weird happened to me in Winterberg map, in two tanks in two different games.

First game I was on a 110 standing on E1 on the entrance of the street, an artillery was behind the fountain, half a square of distance, she spotted me, and I couldn't spot her. Same game but now on B5, artillery (M12) standing behind the bush in A5, and she spotted me, I had to move to aprox. 20 mts to spot her....

The other game, also in Winterberg I was on the tier 7 american T71 light tank, standing on F5, KV 85 standing near the fountain in F1, and I could not spot him...

I have good crews on both tanks, and optics on the T71, I have a good grip on the spotting mechanics, but here we are talking really short distances and two cases where the other tanks had no bush to hide.

Sometimes in some games it feels that no matter what, my tanks just can't spot enemies, like if the commander was down but fails to report or something...

Replay would be best to be able to explain the situation unless the dog ate it. Otherwise it could be an injured commander or you just didn't see the spotting points on the tanks. It could also be a miscalculation from the server due to a mistake, maybe an "invisible wall" managed to slip in that blocks spotting checks. It could also be misjudging distances....you know about proxyspot distance right?

I'll try to upload the replay on the 110, the one in the T71 i don't have its like the fountain was acting like a wall to prevent spotting.

How many bushes would a m12 require to stay hidden at 50 mts, with full cammo crew and camo?

Well, the fountain is solid...

If it was covering the arty's spotting points, then you can't see it, though if yours are exposed it can see you

The joys of WG spotting mechanics unfortunately.

It doesn't matter how much of the enemy tank is sticking out on all sides, as long as the arbitrary spotting points on the front/sides and top are hidden, you will not spot the tank. Even if 70% of the tank would be sticking out of cover.

I was exposed and moving, fountain isn't that big to hide a full KV85 and a tier 8 artillery. I could see them clearly after they were spotted behind the fountain.

It was weird and although I had some weird spotting behaviors this ones were so close. The artillery in the Bushes,it never happened to me, usually you spot them well before they spot you, even hiding in A5, so I assumed she was behind the houses, but no, she was just standing there behind a bush... weird

I'll try to upload the replay

1 bush is all you need...seriously man you need to look up some basic spotting mechanics, you can hide any tank behind a bush as long as it's covered and the tank is 15m or more behind it then you aint gonna spot them till you are in proxy range pretty much.

Yeah kind of stupid really. It would make more sense using the corners of the hull and turret...

I've always wanted the spotting to be LOS, if they are looking in your direction they spot you not because his aerial is poking over a ridge do they spot you 200 metres behind them....

Seems OP doesn't bother anymore or is still waiting for it to come out the other end of the dog.
