The work on fine-tuning SPGs didn’t stop with 9.18. The team spent a few months analyzing your feedback and came up with a set of tweaks to improve the experience for players in arty and those fighting them.

The increased splash radius often resulted in confusing instances where you thought you were safe from an enemy SPG, laying low behind cover, but received damage regardless. To alleviate these issues, we refined the stun and damage calculation mechanic, adding an extra set of variable for shooting over obstacles:

  • Don’t worry about arty shells if the construction (destructible or indestructible) you use for cover is two or more meters thick and your tank stays completely hidden behind it. You’re safe there: if an SPG shoots, your tank won’t get stunned or damaged.
  • Tanks hiding behind a fence or a small house that are less than 2m thick will get stunned and receive the same amount of damage they would get if they were in the open.
  • There’s also a third scenario: while cover is thick (2+ meters), a vehicle isn’t fully hidden (think of any corner maneuver). In this case, the stun duration and damage depend directly on how exposed a tank is. Based on the sizes of the visible area, a vehicle can get:
    • 25% of the total damage and stun time
    • 50% of the total damage and stun time
    • 75% of the total damage and stun time
    • 100% of the total damage and stun time

Also, to provide you a full lowdown on your performance in a battle, the post-battle stats will now brief you on the total stun time you caused.

 

Now that's a really good improvement.

It's good. I hate random splash that detracks me and stuns me.

Save all the *Edited fannying about just remove arty so we can all have type5 heavies and blunder down the corridors!

It's almost like Wargaming is rebalancing artillery with a purpose in mind.

 

The funny thing is that I find arty much more comfortable, and almost fun, to play now than before. Yet, people are complaining and their numbers are dwindling. Removing artillery outright likely won't happen, arty is likely popular amongst players who use it to 'relax' or lack the ability (for whatever reason) to play regular tanks.

 

The rebalance seem to have removed (somewhat surprisingly) the group of players who played it simply because it was fun to 'get back' at tanks when their results in 'normal' tanks weren't what they expected. Suddenly deciding to remove the ability to 'get back' in a single click tells me that this group isn't comprised of players who use a lot of money on the game - sucks, I know. :trollface:

i would call it rather pointless to be forced to focus your attention  on mostly unarmored that your team are fighting anyway so you get some stun damage

 

while shooting anything with like 60mm of armor gets pointless  you could even do a almost 5k damage game and be still on the crds losing side

 

support tank yeah well  might be ok if 90% of the community wont believe that teamwork is a serious mental illness. 

 

so if your team doesnt spot your screwed, if your team doesnt defend you your screwed, if your dont shot a light armored target your team could take care of anyway without problems you are screwed

every other class in the game could at least have a decent game even if your team fails hard  while playing a spg puts you completly at mercy ...

guess you wouldnt be happy if it turns to a common prejudice that everyone using gold ammo was a complete imbecile just unable to aim for weakspots ?

 

and what are we seeing now ? rather the glory of superheavy tanks with hardly anyone daring to shot them  while before arties could have given them some serious headache  reloading for 40 secs doing 100-200 damage hardly could be called fear inducing

but hey there are just countless threads about superhevies being OP, or meds/lights getting focused by arty  what are just the consequences of these arty changes  do you tell them "deal with it"  ?

If you feel it's pointless, don't play it. It's that simple.

 

Personally I started playing arty again after the changes. I like the more reliable but less hard hitting new arty way more than the lottery of the olden days.

arty can never be balanced in it's current gameplay, for the damage it does it needs to be made much harder to use.

 

right now any window licking monkey can play arty hit you for anywhere from 700-200 damage while stunning you.

Actually mate, I used to fit a spall liner in my type 5 and barely noticed arty at all. Seriously. Taking 200 damage every thirty seconds was irrelevant. And all the while my team would be feeling the benefit. Spall liner reduced stun duration too.

Apparently Murazor is a heavy tank fanboy. (Maus)   Now that he's in charge of balance, another round of arty nerfs comes as no surprise.

Because "balance".

 

Nerf an already crippled vehicle and call it an improvement.  Oh WG, you so crazy...

 

Management is obviously struggling to keep payers players from leaving, so instead of adding new content, they are gonna pander to the the lowest common denominator.

As I have stated before, every arty whine ever posted is just some version of the "unfair plane" whine.
If playing a three dimensional game is too difficult, just cry a bit until WG dumbs it down for you.
