It seems WG has finally woken up:

Block Quote

Removed the boosts (a.k.a. ‘mountaingoating’ spots) on following maps:

  • Karelia
  • Steppes
  • Lakeville
  • Abbey
  • Mines
  • Sacred Valley
  • Mountain Pass
  • El Halluf
  • Arctic Circle

Honestly, I think don't think all boosts are a problem but the ones where it's pretty much impossible for the enemy to get to you (pretty much outside the map area) should be removed.

More and more you see these random goats on top of mountains at the edge of the maps which not only handicap their own team (by being out of the active fight for a while) but also are in spots which were never designed to be accessed and which give one side a huge advantage in terms of defence/offence.

Climbing itself is not bad but getting into a position of dominance that was not designed to be there in the first place is just bad balance.

Finally no more RU 251 on mountains or arty hiding behind their cap on mountains in Sacred Valley. Or light tanks on the fortess walls. Very annoying if there is no arty to bugger them off.

I see it like this:

- climbs that allow you to go from one normally accesible area to another normaly accesible area faster  or safer => fine.

- climbs that allow you to go from an normaly accesible area to an area not accesible for non climbers => bad and should be removed.

Heh, for the times I've done climbing, or attempted to do so, I have been "infinitely" more successful in the UDES compared to RU. Can't get that tank to climb no matter what I do.

Yeah pretty much this, basically climbs that don't allow you to be completely safe forever because no-one can get to you, shoot you or spot you, should be removed. These are mostly along the edges of the maps.

Climbing on top of scenery in the middle of the map is generally fine.

Would be nice if WG actually said the EXACT climbs that they remove, like sacred valley/mountain pass for example, many on both maps.. so did they remove them ALL or just certain ones??

and omw WG is so stupid, even they call it "boosts"..... boosts happens probably 1% of the time... it is called CLIMBING..

The sheer joy of WG actually addressing this is worth a doublepost in my opinion. :)

right on time. There are already mods that show all the routes by a click of a button, exactly where you need to step all the way, including positions themselves on the minimap). So if WG didn't remove them from next patch, we would have hordes of mountain goats very soon.

I saw a guy streaming on twitch, it was one of the most popular modpacks on Ru server, if I'm not mistaken, PROTanki modpack.

By a click of a button it literally shows entire routes all the way to the tops. And you no longer need to even know where positions are (they are all shown on the minimap).

Wouldn't be surprised if they used that tool to close off those paths.

I have to agree with you guys here.

I would like to add that without knowing witch climbs they will remove I simply cannot help but be afraid that this will mean that you might not be able to outsmart some heavies camping a corridor when playing a fast tank with no armor (and here I don`t mean climbing to the edge of the map but using some shortcuts to get an angle on the enemy).

Let`s see how this plays out.

Patch has not hit yet, I still have a bit of time to induce some noobrage with climbing.
