Why is the T1 heavy's best gun so bad?

So the T1 heavy really has not much of a gun choice, if you check the gun stats you will soon figure out that the final gun is indeed the best gun.

The tank has 2 gunners yet even with vents and gun laying drive the aim time is just abysmal + the circle before aiming begins is bigger than you'd expect.

Also it clearly suffers from bad view range issues, so I was hoping to opt the gld out for like optic if the aiming would be good...

I mean the gun has no redeeming features besides maybe the damage per minute... Yet on KV-1, Churchill 1/3 it's even better.

Like what gives? Is this a tank WG forgot about?

I was hoping to play it a bit so I could transport a decent crew on M6... looks like I might need to stop after 3 marking...

I got on ok with the T1 as it seemed to be able to bounce a shot or two enabling you to at least help in holding a flank. Basic heavy tank 101 play worked quite well. Lots of side scraping, timing when you peek. Get hull down etc

M6 was a different story where the gun works but the armour is simply non existent and simply unable to carry a flank. It was simply outclassed by all the T34-85m's that are floating round at the moment. Even getting penned through the gun mantlet when hull down.

Grinding this ATM cant say its a good tank, a HT with HT speed, MT armor and a MT gun while having bad viewrange.... seems legit.

and the gunhandling is UTTER GARBAGE which makes no sense because its already a small pop gun and has not other redeeming features not to mention two gunnners who just seem to be there to screw up crew layouts.

its not just bad its UNPLAYABLE

started playing the M6 today, only 3 games so far but it already feels like a dream compared to the T1. gunhandling is very nice and much more accurate then the T1 and the big alpha means you can trade much better. and the excellent gold penn keeps you relevant in +2 games :bush:

Disgrace of american tree would be t1 and m6. Such garbage, such waste.

Said it before and I'll say it again, if you can manage to keep a T1 heavy, or a M6, hull down then you can keep any other American heavy hull down as well.

If nothing else they are excellent hull down tactics practice thanks to those huge hulls.

aside from making yourself a smaller target i dont see much use in going hull down in the T1 as tge turret is cheese.

T1 doesn't have the armour or the firepower to cut it as heavy. Too big and ponderous to play as a medium. Just one of those tanks to grind. Mind you I don't find the M6 an improvement, more alpha (insufficient against T8) but even worse armour. I hope the T29 is better.

Typical case of powercreep - back in the days it had decent everything for a HT of tier 5, but nowdays it seems that without at least 200+ alpha tier 5 HT is a no go...

Though it is reasonably mobile, and in tier 5 game the frontal armor is decent.

Tank is fine, gun is fine.

Churchill is a lot slower, has worse frontal armour, -4 depression (T1 has -10) and 240 less dpm.

KV-1 has worse frontal armour, -7 depression, worse aim/soft stats and worse pen (with it's T34-85 gun), and is slower.

The T1 is very mobile, has some of the best front armour and side scraping abilities (for tier 5), the best mobility and a gun which may lack alpha but is great for wrecking anything that decides to rush it (esp meds).  In a tier 7 game it doesn't suck as much as either of those other heavies as it has better mobility, can peek over hills and premium ammo still quite capable of killing tier 7 heavies.

It's big weakness is view range of 330m, but that's still 20 better then a KV1.  It's not the best heavy but it's pretty decent.

Since when is making yourself a smaller target a bad thing? Last time I checked smaller targets are harder to hit, after all.
