With "any" good tips excludes the following tips:

  • sell it
  • free xp through it
  • uninstall
  • git gud

Been grinding for this line ever since i started playing WoT. After taking off some detour on getting other tanks first i finally arrived at the Leopard PT A and aiming for the Leopard 1.

I heard and read many successful horror story for Halloween about it. But there must be some success story about it as well. So please share your play style and setup for this tank to make it work (for you). And what was your experience and the solution about the stock grind?

Thanks! :medal:

Get everything you can to decrease the frequency of amoracks, it just loves to blow up. other than that i think its a great tank, better than the leopard 1

It was a terrible tank for me while playing it stock. But fully upgraded it`s a different story.

I am currently having a 62% winrate in it despite not having a good crew in it (85 battles so far, my winrate might still go down) and my average damage is quite low.

Play it as a support tank. You will not last much if you brawl frontline in this, but you can turn the tide with some sniping shots saving your teammates. :playing:

Best tip is dont expect it to be "balanced" with other tank types in the same tier.

Dude, chill, it's a beautiful tank. :)

Considering free XP and grinding modules though:

If you can upgrade something with free XP, I'd go about the mobility first (tracks and engine), and gun last.

Cause I think mobility is key, given the weak armor.

Even though the top gun's a dream, in comparison to all those that preceded it, in that line.

Anyway, it's a great tank.

Enjoy the awesome mobility (after engine upgrade) and the awesome 390 alpha, high pen, high precision gun.

Just take care to not show your ammorack in the open too much, don't let them track and rack you at the same time by showing the front sprocket wheels in bad angles.

Try out hull down fighting, dodging to turret down easily thanks to nice acceleration, flanking, sniping, whatever. You'll sometimes even bounce a shot with your turret or upper hull front, thanks to good angling, - just don't count on it. ;)

Oh, and concerning the stock grind...

If you can't unlock anything right away, not even tracks/engine:

Try playing with even more foresight and care, since you can't run away as well as the top configuration could.

That might mean more distance from the enemy, i.e. sniping and camo work, or "2nd/3rd line support", call it what you will.

But you can also ditch the fear of paint-scratching and just run with the lemming train and rack up XP by shooting distracted/reloading tanks in close combat, - whatever works best for you personally in the given situation.

Tracking/spotting damage is cool, too.

Just get those XP/modules, and if you wanna try "my" method, go:

mobility > turret > gun.

Good luck! :)

  1. Sell it
  2. Free exp through

:hiding:

I don't know how it is now, when I grinded through it was garbage having absolutely zero gun depression a small bump would stop you to shoot anything smaller than a maus.

The gun is a beast, so try getting that, abuse your speed and spotting range and support by eating enemy health from bushes.

Keep in mind that the gun looks great on paper but has the worst soft stats among sniping meds:facepalm:, only british tanks are worse, so don't expect to hit weakspots reliably if you are 300+ m away.

honestly OP this is good advice as it's not a tank that suffers fools well. I bought it recently as I love fast meds with epic guns and it fits my style perfectly.  But it is very easy to get into trouble with it. if you art experienced with this style of tank then go easy at first. you need to understand where the enemy are likely to be early game as you can get there first and get easy early damage in. mid game is about surviving and farming on others spotting then Kate game get that assisted damage in.

It's one of the best T9 meds at the moment.

Get to elevated position early, snipe and spot.

Lighthouse hill, abbey middle, prokh west hill, novka middle river overview, erlenberg west, can even bolt out in time if you are aware of surrounding situation.

Preserve hp to late game, assist the brawlers by either flanking or harassing because you have speed and gun. Win.

Don't sell it!

It's probably the best tier IX medium tank in the game.

Great mobility and speed, decent alpha damage and great penetration value.

Try to unlock 105 mm cannon as soon as possible and you will "fall" in love with this tank.

As a "stock" tank, it wasn't so painful to play (well, at least for me).

Just try not to rush in front of the battlefield. Use it more as a "sniper" tank, flank your enemies if it's possible, etc...

Wether you go with free XP or just grinding: you NEED the turret first. The gunhandling and DPM get so much better it is a difference between night and day. While i am no fan of paper-snipers i found the PTA well workable - but while balanced rather hard to drive.

The gun is nice, but that is litterally all the tank has.

Gunhandling? acceptable, but snapshots only work at very close range.

Mobility? decent  (for a med), however with the number of scouts in battles currently not outstanding anymore.

Armour/HP/Modules? don't ask. Someone sneezing 5m away will kill your crew, a thrown pebble will break gun or turret or ammo-rack.

Also keep one fact in mind: arty/derp-guns CAN penetrate you (also every lowtier with his stock-gun) - expect to be priorety target number 1 every single battle.

The Skoda T 50 says hi. Personally, I also like the E 50, which allows for a more versatile gameplay.

Well, I don't own Škoda T50, but I would like to have one...

For me, Leopard PT A is still the best tier IX medium tank.:P

Thanks for the tips, keep them coming!

So far decided to free XP the turret to begin with: improves the stats on the gun and overall tank performance difference like day and night!
