I have noticed a strange trend over the recent months: people are shooting more and more HE from non-derp guns in situations where higher-penetration premium ammo would actually yield much better and faster results. This is not a sign of poor skill because pressing "2" twice does not require any skill. I think this is a sign of reduced earnings with growing reluctance to spend scant silver or gold on premium ammunition.

I've not noticed an increase in this at all.  In fact, this situation is MUCH better than it was in the past.  People would think "Oh, HE does more damage, I'll fire that". This happens far less often these days.

They saw Circon do it and thought they could repeat it even though they are nowhere near the skill level of Circon.

Same reason everyone goes to the pass now on Lakeville, they probably saw QB do that in one of his videos/streams and get away with it and now everyone goes there even though it's the most useless part of the map.

They do it because HE does more damage.
Anyway. Good news.

Naa, it's completely tied to the Stun mechanic.

Making coin isn't an issue or hard.

It is plenty, in tier 6-8 you see a lot of tanks including Lowe - Tiger I - Tiger II, Pudels, IS line and Kv lines, t-34 and the alike going full HE for puny damage.

I think because they cannot penetrate anything with a minimum of armor with autoaim, so they resort to tier 3 level of damage driving a tier 6-8.

Also it could be an effect from the Japanese heavies blasting of tomatoes with HE: they probably think HE is so powerful, they just don't have idea that the caliber matters. :coin:

Could be because the tier 8s MM is so bad now that it's more difficult to earn credits with what used to be most profitable tanks.

There is no stun mechanic on HE - only arty HE.

It is more than that. It is tied to both how often and where people are stunned. This stun spot activity affects many things, heating up engagements, turning the tides of battles and could lead to the extinction of older premiums, dinosaurs, if you will. :amazed:

nah, I don't use gold unless I have too, but in saying that credits have gone down to prevent mudflation from all these reserve boosters.

Only use HE when normal AP won't pen unless using a Derp then usually full HE.

Aye I thought credits had gone down, just a feeling, nothing scientific to back up the thoughts tho.

I don't actually use HE anymore because RNG trolls me with that.

The amount of times I've had a 120 damage roll with HE when shooting a Skorpion or Grille 15 in my Centurion 7/1. . .

Came up against an O-I Exp in my T29 the other day. Couldn't side scrape/hulldown where I was, so he pens me frontally with AP. He's in a good spot with hardcover so I miss my first shot. And then... he... switches to HE. Like he was maybe thinking "hey, AP penned, I'll try HE for more damage!".

He tried 3 times. Didn't go too well for the poor guy. He would have murdered me with AP though.

I often get a bit stunned when enemy shoots me with HE.

Probably caused by the combination of amusement and disbelief.

After HE nerf i use it only if situation and my position is so bad that even "skill ammo" would not work its magic... But then again you can have situation like i had yestrday when i set on fire Maus with HE splash on its engine deck and take its 1500HP in one single shot...

I noticed recently more HE from tanks I would not expect to fire HE like russian meds when I am playing meds that are not heavily armoured. It usually surprises me because HE does low damage and AP would most likely have penned.

I guess alot of players swap too HE when facing tanks of higher tiers or when a tank is in cover with turrent showing thats hard to penetrate.  Plus you get greater chance to damage modules or crew.  The use of gold ammo is too expensive for alot of players without having too play lower teir tanks alot to make credits. I never use gold ammo myself, just see it as a waste of credits/gold.

I know why people shoot HE more

Because with HE u dont [edited]0 crit on a tank with max 20mm armour with a 120mm gun with 257mm pen
