vBaddict is a site that gathers WOT and WOWS stats.  I'm sure you've seen it.

Unfortunately it will soon be closing  http://www.vbaddict.net/threads/16918-vBAddict-is-closing

This is understandable but still really quite sad.

My suggestion to Wargaming is that they should adopt the site to keep it going.

It's a fantastic resource for finding out statistically significant, real world information about tanks.

I use it for things like ...

1) How much money does a Premium actually make ?

2) How good is a particular tank at dishing damage, or winning battles or earning XP (particularly useful for missions like for the Heavy Tank #6) ?

3) What equipment should I put in my new tank ?

4) What skills should go on my crew for a particular tank ?

5) Which tanks am I close to getting a gun mark ?

Personally I think WG should buy the site, mod and all the code off of Phalynx.

I almost never used it and it isn't WGs job to save some dying sites.

Whilst the closure of a fan site is sad and massive respect to the guy for keeping it running long after he stopped playing the game I'm not sure what it actually provides.

Now that may be because either I misunderstand the site or am simply not good enough to understand what it's telling me or both.  I thought that most of the stats were compiled from people running a program to upload their data.  Which basically means that it's inaccurate because it's only a subset of the true data.

Your list of possible uses doesn't really mean much to me either.  I have a set amount of tanks to use from my garage and just by playing the game I know which of my tanks provide the best credits or the best damage.  Knowing that a premium I don't have provides x credits for people who have it doesn't really make a difference. Crew skills and equipment are pretty standard across most tank lines, I don't think I've ever looked at the site and been surprised about the common ones selected.

I'm really not knocking the owner and I genuinely respect the amount of dedication and time and effort that has gone in to maintaining it for all this time.  I just personally don't understand the usefulness of it but then I may well not be the target audience.

It is a great resource and WG should at least consider taking it over, or even just covering the costs of maintaining it.

Most probably WG is happy now that we won't have such info to backup our whining about gold nerf and opshit premiums

VB is the only place where you can check stats which are not really... in line with what WG claims :D Thanks to VB i know my accuracy goes down by ca. 20% in the weekends :P

I doubt they will do anything about it, WG publish data only when the pressure is really high - they still do not show shell speed values in the game client, for example. So a site which digs into such precise and deep numbers and does quite some analytic math is likely not welcome.

Missing a choice/checkbox: I never used it but I've heard it's useful and I was thinking of installing it.

WG should add recent stats to official WoT client (recent winrates and damage etc).

That's all I would need.

I like vbaddict, but WG would probably destroy it, so no, let it rip.

First time I've seen someone that claims to have proof of something like that happening. Do you happen to have posted it somewhere?

(It does make a bit of sense that it happens, though  my bets would be on booze and lag rather than weekend-RNG. )

WG will be dancing on the grave of this website, you know why? Because it gives us the statistics to prove certain tanks are broken/overpowered. It disables the option for WG to just blatantly insist stuff is fine when we can clearly see its not.

WG will be happy to see it go.

WG has zero interest in providing us with all that statistic data, so chance for them to "rescue" the site is below zero. The less info players have the easier it is for WG to do whatever they want.

I understand your cynicism but I'm not convinced.  I don't know exactly how vBaddicts harvests its data, but I suspect its via a mechanism that WG approves of (much like all the other stat sites and mods like XVM).

You sound like my manager :D

I am a software developer (C++/Python) so it did briefly cross my mind.

It's a fantastic resource indeed. But why should WG buy it if it's a money sink? Even with all the donators, it was not enough to keep it up.

There are other sites that can adopt that easily. In fact some are planning to. Then again vBaddict is mostly comparing it to the users uploaded dossiers on most aspects, not the entire server.

WG are never going to take it over because then they won't be able to just say it's stats are wrong.

Isn't WN8 expected value pulled from VB addict?  If so, can I t close tomorrow?

It's been great for those of us interested in stats about their play rather than looking at a single WN8 number.   Phalynx did a great job responsingf to suggestions and at time incorporating bits of analysis I had worked on into the site.   Perhaps he did too much and made it a bit hard to maintain but I will certainly miss it no end.

WG have no reason to fear people looking at their own stats, it's one of the things that keeps people involved in the game when they're not playing.

Why should WG take over something they already own?

The fantastic work by Vbaddict is, unfortunately, only a small subset of the statistics WG has available to work with and that they decide not to share.

WG neither would nor should save a dying site.

There are other sites like this, and where one fall another will grow.
