Hey guys, I'm currently in the process of finding a medium tank line so start crawling down slowly but it needs to be worth the grind. I don't want sluggish tanks I prefer the fast more mobile tanks? I have the T-34 Russian medium so I don't wanna go any further than tier 6 for the moment as I'm pretty bad at the game and want 5 - 6 I can rotate round so I don't get bored of learning. TIA

Cromwell is a really good tier 6 medium

Skoda T25 is a very prominent tier6 medium, too. Tiers 7 and 8 aren't very good, though manageable. Tiers 9-10 autoloaders Skoda T50 and TVP T50/51 are some of the best medium tanks in the game.

Edit: Tbh most of the medium lines in this game are nice and it pays off to play them, if not for anything else, to learn the game. Most of them are very different from other medium lines and require some different approach to how you play them.

So, pick any and try it out! Crommy and Comet are sure mobile, so are most of the Czech mediums. E8 and T20 are fairly mobile too.

It was very good until T-34/85M spam. Now it's only decent.

At tier 6, Skoda t25 or Cromwell are both fast and powerful tanks, but not very noob friendly due to lack of armor. I'd probably pick Skoda as that line has some of the strongest high tier mediums if you plan to go up that tree later.

As mentioned, mediums lose their usefulness at around tier6. Why? well.. most take a significant jump in firepower at tier6 from tier5 like going from around 100 to 150 pen along with some more hp and overall just better in most areas so that's pretty much a 50% jump in pen and they get bit more alpha or dpm or aim time or something nice like that too. With mm having a +-2 tier system most tier7 medium tanks remain with the top gun from tier6. Does just one tier make a difference? a lot actually.

Don't misunderstand, the tier7 mediums are definite improvements over the tier6 in many ways including improvements in mobility and armour, but most keep their tier6 gun which vs the now more numerous tier8s in many battles and also several tier9.. they feel and are pretty poor tanks with the same being true of most if not all the tier8 medium tanks which now face large amounts of OP tier8 premium heavies as equals, a lot of superior tier9 and just to add insult to injury you also get to fight tierX.

So if you've taken the medium line to tier6, the T34-85, I would say well done, that is a fine tank, a capable tank, a punchy tank but go no further. Being top tier in a tier6 medium is fun if it's a good one like the T34-85(or M) along with fan favorites the Cromwell which plays like a light tank and the Sherman Jumbo which plays like a heavy tank with a derp gun. Some stick with tier5 to avoid tier8 but personally I find the large gains at tier6 justifies facing tier8 tanks no problem really and with the current mm format, even when you are bottom tier, you will face mostly other tier6, tier7 which as mentioned, is pretty much still tier6 but with a bit more hp and only 2-3 tier8 tanks so am I bothered by 2-4 tier8 tanks? not really. It's not all the time vs tier8, its not many of them and most tier8 are noobs anyway. Also, tier5 no longer face tier3 so even as top tier you will at best be facing a few tier4 tanks.. I will face tier4 with a tier6 too

Hi!

My advice: stay at tier-5. Tier-6 meets tier-8 monstrosities way too often to be fun.

WRT medium tanks: plenty of decent choices. Just remember most of them have to be played as light tanks. My impression of tanks I own:

  • Škoda T-25 is fast, but turns slowly. Autoloader is good, but turret is weak, so often you can't fire the 3rd shot, because someone is already firing at you.
  • Cromwell is fast and mobile, but has no armor and the gun aiming stats are bad. OTOH 200mm "gold" pen can damage tier-8 it regularly meets.
  • T34-85(+M+Rudy) are decent all-arounders. The best part of them is 280 dmg from 85mm HE ammo. :justwait:

BTW avoid using 105mm derp gun at tier-6. Most of targets you'll meet have good armor, where derp will do 100 dmg or less.

BR, Iztok

I would just like to put in a word for the M4A3E8, or Easyeight as it was known. Although this tank has suffered from a degree of power creep it is still nonetheless decent. But in particular it is a very good tank to learn hull down mechanics, peeking ridges, and angling the tank to try and get bounces from the upper plate. All of those mechanics tend to work versus tier VII and below opponents.

What iztok said. Stay max tier 5 for a couple hundred more battles and try out multiple tank classes. From what i see you just rushed through the tanks like there is a price for reaching tier 10 asap but there isn't.

Take your time, pick a tank or two to find out what class / tank really fits your playstyle. Asking around which tank is the best, grinding it then finding out that it doesn't suit you is no good. Tier 5 is a good tier to try out things and it doesn't cost you much silver. The higher you go the lower your income will be the worse you are, anything above tier 6 will not be a good experience for a new player. Believe me, my buddy did that mistake and regretted it so i followed his advice and kept it max tier 6 for at least 4k battles before i picked my first tier 7 tank.

Edit:

Arthurs advice is also ok. Easy 8 is a decent allround medium. It's a bit outdated but still a nice platform.

Just one more step :) T-34 is good, but T-34-85 is crazy good.

Tier V mediums... ugh. I don't have good experiences with many of these. The T-34, the Chi-Nu and Strv are probably the best ones.

Tier VI... Cromwell, T-34-85(M), Strv 74, Skoda T25 and the Shermans are all pretty good. Which one is the best for you realy depends on your playstyle though - personally I perform by far the best with the Strv 74 out of these but I never tried the latter two.

Why can't every new player be like you ;-;

A quick overview of some mediums I'd recommend:

Skoda T24 is a very nimble, highly mobile medium that gets good pen but garbage dpm and appalling armour. The skoda T25 a tier above is also very good, having an autoloading variant of the T24s gun that unloads and reloads fast. The Czech line has a rather disappointing tier 7 and 8, but the tier 9 and 10 tanks are very good.

Crusader is one of my favourite tanks in the game - Despite having a rather disappointing top speed of 44km/h, it is quite nippy, has a similar gun to the T-34s 57mm, very good gun depression to the sides of the tank at -12* and also has good camo. The tank after it, the Cromwell, is an amazing tank for the tier boasting good dpm and light tank mobility but has bad accuracy on the move and disappointing armour.

The VK M at tier 6 is a good medium to try if you want to play a medium that can bounce something every once in a while, it has a semi-decent mantlet and has the armour to bully lower tier tanks. Its gun is accurate and has decent DPM. However, getting to the VK M is a challenge as it requires going through the VK 3001H which is an appalling tank, and the tank preceding the vk H, the DW2, is also mediocre although it can be quite stupid when lobbing 130 pen APCR on a tank that'll never see tier 6.

Strv 42 can also be worth a look - Little armour, kinda meh mobility but gets amazing gun depression at a  whopping -15* and has 150 alpha on a medium with kinda decent gun handling and reload. The tank after it, the Strv 74 is amazing, the gun handling rivals tier 9 mediums, retains the amazing gun depression of the strv 42, gets better mobility and better DPM. Both these tanks however have horrible armour.

If you like to grind in light tanks, try the frenchies - both AMX 30s are great sniper meds.

If you want high damage guns with good gun depression, but mediocre mobility - go for the Americans.

If you want to cry at every bump in the road, because you can't aim your gun down - try the Chinese meds.

Well.
IS-3 is best T8 medium.
T-10 is best T9 medium.

In general, medium tanks are gimped in current WoT metagame.

There are a few useful T5 and T6 mediums aswell as a few at T10.

Afaik, Obj 140 is at T10. And it is decent. But for winning games, 113 and 5A are probably better.
