So I'm actually surprised noone raised this before, but I'm sick of having cool [edited]looking secondary machine guns on my tank and having them actually do nothing. The game would be way better if you could use them.

I'd be much happier if they added new maps, functional headlights for night/day/dusk maps, weather that effected handling, stopped weekend shoulder munchers from ruining the game, fixed the fact that the game is 25% rng (25% luck).

Try war thunder if you want functional machine guns.

*edit* how would you suppose they added functional machine guns. + useless brain dead oranges have trouble aiming with main guns never mind confusing them by adding another.

What would you actually do with them?

Oh it's been talked about 100x before. But it's concluded as 100% useless on anything but tier 1 and 2.

Use them on what? An E100? The tier II T7CC has a 50 cal as it's main armament. The Light Vic at tier II also has a 15cm Machine gun. And it's only good vs paper lights and open top TD's. Even the Pz II is a beast for those guns. So on 90% of the tanks it would be just like it is now. A decoration that makes noises. And you might say use them vs lights. But that would make lights even more useless. As their MG's can't even pen a medium. But the medium they are fighting is using both his MG's and his 100mm on him. He only has his 76mm gun to use back. Sure that's fair.

War Thunder has it. But there it's only good for AA trucks. As what most use it for is to use it as a pointer for others as in enemy fire direction in historical games, as there are no markers on enemy tanks.

Well you can shoot down weak structures instead of using your main gun and maybe take down weak tracks

Always thought this game should have the crew flee the destroyed tank, so you can machine gun them for bonus points.. Also, have your crew swarm another tank, kill their crew and start playing their tank. :teethhappy:

This sounds like a terrible idea.

The typical MG on a tank won't be able to do either of them.

Only because you can't see a topic about this on the first page of this forum doesn't mean that it didn't get brought up yet. It got discussed multiple times already.

Use the search function.

So use it to perma track them? As each hit resets the repair time. So that would just ruin more then it would fix... Then again considering how bad the module damage is on the one 50 cal we have. As that's not even good at taking out tier 1 tracks fast. I suspect they will be equally useless vs... everything.

And then you realize some tanks have actually quite big secondary guns.

The B1 has a 75mm howitzer, which has shitty pen and probably relies on HE, but... it is only a Tier IV tank and it can definately bitchslap SPGs. The M3 Lee and Grant also have decent secondary armanament, but in their case it's swapped with the B1 as it's their turret. But it's still a big boost for both of them.

Japanese heavies and the Chi-Ri have a 47mm gun (81mm penetration!) as a secondary. Especially on the Japanese heavies this is quite major.

Outside of this, there are plenty of paper tanks; most tanks have a .50 HMG and even if it has only 30mm penetration, there are a ton of things these guns can penetrate on every tier. Just imagine sitting behind a large paper TD, using your HMG against that while using your main gun against the opposing heavy tank?

I don't know if it's a necessary addition - probably not - but many players downplay its effect on gameplay. It will definately affect gameplay, even at Tier X where larger caliber secondaries are absent and most tanks have armor sufficient to bounce the HMGs that remain.

well, back in the day didn't they use machine guns to show up hidden armour? - that would be a valid game use. But i'm with Juicyproduction- other things first.

They were implemented on the testserver. Conclusion: people ain't got the maturity to use m sensibly & used them to troll the hell out of others. So: no horns.

On the secondary guns: KV-4 topturret has a secondary 75mm gun in the miniturret, that can rotate independently (not modelled ingame as not needed). Would make it quite strong in fighting weakly armored tanks: point main gun to enemy, point secondary gun at whatever tries to circle you (or turn main turret & miniturret for better turret traverse speed on minuturret)

Would make lights a tad bit pointless imo, if you could use the secondary armaments / machineguns on tanks, as some have rather powerful secondary armament for their tier (churchill hull gun)

WG have said in the past MG are for defence against infantry, no infantry no need for MG:)

Perhaps they could be used against those planes tho or wayward teammates, may not damage but would make u feel better.

Imagine how broken the M3 Lee would become!

Not really. Can't seem to recall anyone singing the praises of the same gun on the M5 Stuart, after all.

Wouldn't you end up needing two mice? And presumably two screens (or an inset in the main battle window?)
