Suggestion:
Instead of player names, show "Ally1" to "Ally14" and "Enemy1" to "Enemy15". Do not show clan abbreviations. Show names and clan abbreviations in post-battle screen though.

There are two issues this solves:
a) Berating bad players before the battle has even started. No need to see these "TigerP, uninstall, you are a bot", I think such abuse makes it harder to attract players to the game and doesn't even help them improve.
b) XVM focus. Players with good stats are targeted by arty and other enemies, but because you don't know if this will happen or not it adds another RNG factor to a game with too much RNG already.

There are no drawbacks really.

Alternative suggestion - just hide enemy names, leave ally names in place.

Make it optional and I say why not? Should be up to yourself if you want your name shown or not. Would save many players alot of unnecessary BS, the ones that want to show off still can.

I heard many "famous" players state that they hate being targeted because of who they are. Well this would solve that. Feel targeted? Hide your nick when you feel like.

Win - Win

Optional is best option.

Also a good idea. I like.

First they made it so you can not talk to the other team, and now you want to take away the names.

This is a PVP game, you are playing other people, real people. Is there any other PVP game that does not show the names of the players?

Why do you need the names?

I want to know who I am playing, it adds to the flavour.

And if you call them Friend1, Friend1 would still be called an idiot. Or you use the name of the tank he is driving.

XVM is a bigger problem if yiou think this is a problem.

I have never in my life seen a pvp game were so many freaking grown ups are throwing tantrums over some god damn numbers. It's beyond pathetic to watch this.

If it's optional,  why do you care?  Is it so damn important to you to know a Internet strangers nickname at all times?

Make it optional.  That would serve both sides.

If you see the name after the game like OP suggested the abuse would probably just take place in the garage instead of during the battle.

I dont think many people actually remember the names of the players they meet. I have seen a few from the forums that I recognise but that is all.

Players would still be abused, whatever they are called. Take away their names and they would cry about that AMX driver or Tiger idiot anyway.

I am saying that removing the name will not make any difference.

Edit: spelling...

I am not saying xvm focus does not happen, but have you read the arty Personal Missions recently?

One mission says "hit heavy tank five times in battle"

Another says "keep same tank stunned for 100 seconds"

If players are attempting to do SPG missions, and you happen to be in the tank that is in the description, then they will follow you around the battle to complete their mission.

Yeah good idea, also remove the team chat and actually why not make it a single player game so we could play against nameless bots all day. Then there would be no nasty people hurting our feelings and no complaining about MM.

How? Without actually removing XVM?

If XVM doesn't know the names (and player IDs) of the enemies (or even allies) then it cannot paint them red / purple / whatever.

People are too lazy to abuse after the match in garage.

And mission focus happens, but XVM focus happens much more often.

or just remove xvm/don't give it aproved mod status when it comes in - it'd solve more issues.

Only average players whine about other players. Best and worst don t care. If someone cry, put him on ignore list, or tell him something like "you re too stressed, find a girlfriend".

Plus everyone fails or shine someday, regardless of his general stats.

XVM does tons of other useful things though. Would be a pity to lose it.

I don't personally care about the whining.

I care about the bad players getting abused and leaving the game. If enough players leave, the game will die.

Better to just remove XVM then, probably easier to do.

Problem is that you can tell the difference between good and bad players even without XVM, I dont use it anymore and I can still see when someone does not know how to play.

Removing XMV may get rid of the initial thrash talk but bad players would still be recognised and abused.

Remove the names of the enemy team and keep the names in your own team. There is no point in seeing the enemy names since you can't chat with them anyway and the option to use xvm to determine, who of your teammates to trust still remains.

No then they will just safe the trash talking until he starts top camp base in his Tiger P. This might reduce this by 30% at the most. As most bad players show why they are bad, and why they need to improve rather fast in a battle regardless. So the trash talk vs some will still keep going as bad as before for some. If they want to improve they will. Regardless of what the chat says.

Well tbh that could work both ways. As I've seen plenty of "good" players yolo tomatoes for "easy" kills and die instantly, as they had more guns at the back.
