So..I need 1 game (634xp) in my O-Ni to get the crew on 110%.
I play 1 game, and suddenly I need 2606xp and proxy 5 battles?!?! And I even had a very decent round.

How does that work?

I think you've missed something matey, the info for how much xp is needed comes from the personel file of an individual, not the whole crew - maybe you are looking at a different crew member? or the number relates to the next % increase

You need X amount of xp for the next percentual point to be completed.

Post a printscreen, as I suspect that crew member may go beyond 110% if you have trained BiA or equipped vents.

As said above, XP is not shown for a crew as a whole. But individually. And some crews might be further behind then others. That or he did get enough to go up, but it now shows how much he needs to the next level. As the crew's base % with the exception of the commander, can go past 110% even. If you hover your mouse over each crew, you get the base % shown, and bonuses from vents, BIA, food etc that stacks on top of that. So if the first one shows less then 100%. Then it's simply that. He did level up, and now he needs more XP to get to the next %.

AS others have said it's showing the individual crew members requirement.  Also I think if you end a battle and 1 crew member is dead then they get less XP than those who survived -  thats why personally now I always use the small med kit to ensure as many as possible survive - "No man left behind"  !

This is why some crew members have more to go than others

I was talking about a single crew member, my sentence wasn't that clear..

I got it down to 343 (aprox 1 battle) and now 2226 after 2 battles, where I ended in the top 3.

ofc it fixed itself after the last 2 rounds.... but I still wonder how that works.

was looking at these stats btw.

I have no idea why they chose to display the amount needed until the next whole % and not how much that's needed to reach 100%

It's one of those things where mods can be way more useful than vanilla.

So he was 99% on the major qualification and needed 634xp to get to 100%. That's done.

Now he's at 72% of the 1st skill and needs 2226xp to reach 73%. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Use this calculator, have fun.

As an aside, training BIA as a first Perk from the get go isn't really helping you until every crew member has it to 100% (and you have to wait for the commander to reach 100% primary too so will take some time) I find it better to train a skill first, repairs is good on HT's, so you get the benefit while the skill is training, once your second skill is up to 43-45% you can reset (to BIA) and retain 100% first skill.

you can work out the required xp on this handy calculator too http://www.planetwot.com/Crewxp/

That shows it will take 2226 exp to get to 73% BIA.

You have 5 crew at 100% primary and training BIA yet the commander is only at 95% and has no skills at all.  Until you have a commander with 100% BIA that BIA training is useless.

So he needed his 110% on the mayor qualification first doesn't he? That took him an additional 5 battles. That is the confusion part.

You won't train any skills if the major is not at 100%

They only train to 100% major qualification.  The other 9% is the commander bonus, which will be 10% when the commander is at 100%.

Once at 100% major qualification the exp requirement is for the next skill/perk %age.

The "new" display isn't helpful, it was better when they showed the basic training level and only saw the bonus when you hovered over them.

If you want a nice indepth guide on crew XP and XP in general, I can advise this guide: Schmidty's (crew) XP guide , can help you explain some finer/lesser known points of how it all works (especially with how various bonuses & events stack up!
