I understand that it decreases damage done by non-penetrating HE shells by 50%, does this also means that chance for taking module damage decreases? That part I could not figure out. I got this on my TOG and it feels quite good to take less damage from those OI and KV-2 HE shell spammers :teethhappy:

No it doesn't.

The way the calculation on non penetrating HE works is the same as having 50% thicker armour at the point it uses for the damage calculation.

It also reduces the chance of crew death.

So how much do I benefit from it? How much is damage decreased then if i were to get shot by KV-2 HE shell and it does not penetrate.

Depends where it hits you.

If the damage calculation is using thick armour, say it hits your frontal plate, then quite a bit.  If it uses some 10mm engine deck plate or something for the calculation then not much.  Check the wiki for the actual maths.

Spall liner sounds good, and in optimal conditions it gives you a good damage reduction, but you might not often have those optimal conditions.

They should make it a straight up 50% dmg reduction post armor calcs. It would definitely be a viable option then I think.

Hmm, I guess I don't have to worry about frontal plate then since I don't drive engage enemy with front.

sides have same armor as front (~76mm). If a KV- hit you there and don't pen you will recive this damage:

Without SHSL 910/2-(76*(1+0.1))=371.4 avarage dmg

With SHSL       910/2-(76*(1+0.1+0.5)=335 avarage dmg.

The thicker the armour the greater the benefit. In TOG II* it's not a very eficient choice...

the benefit is small.

check this post:

I agree with nuklear_slug above, a straight 50% reduction of damage after other calculations would be better.

the maximum benefit of a super heavy spall liner is:

1.1 * 1.5 * thickness in mm of splashed armor

I reckon after a few games you will see its not worth the effort.

Yeah, after reading some previous comments I noticed that it is less effective than I had hoped for. It might still save me some health and crew members so Ill still go for it.

Nice necro. But if you had read all the thread you would know why it doesn't work on you. Basically or you get hit on the roof or you have very poor armour.
