First of all, WG did a great job modelling the  vehicle(s) STG/ guard. It/they look absoulutly stunning, and now that we have the choice of buying the custom paint job, or regular camo version it is easier to choose to buy the vehicle (at least for my part).

So what about the tank... Well, I did have some expectations for this tank, having a low, slick design and a back mounted turret. Now I have a couple of hundred games under my belt and made up following thougths about this tank.

Armour - Crap, except from the turret. It might bounce some shot from same tier mediums, but don't count on bouncing heavies. Don't even think about sidescraping same tier heavies.

Mobility- Decent. 50 km/h downhill with the wind in your back and all the ammo out the hatch

Base camo value - Not as good as I would think. I keep getting spotted inside bushes, behind bushes and all over the place.

Gun handling - Bad- even though the accuracy is fairly good (for WOT standard), the reload and aiming tme drags down the overall performance of the gun. The dpm is also not that great. Forget snapshooting, forget shoting on the move, and forget (as usual) hitting targets at long distances.

Fun factor - Mediocre. This is in my mind primarily a support tank. Having no armour, it has to snipe/ support at least -the first part of the game. Taking in consideration the broken tier 8 MM, the fun factor drops even more.

So what is special about this tank? Can it do something no other tier 8 prem meds can? It has some capability to poke ridges and trade shots (mobility + speed), as the Primo vicoria. The primo will be better at it though -with the negative 10 depression.  No hull armour and bad gun handling doesn't encourage aggresive gameplay, This tank has almost the caracteristics of a tank destroyer. and often I find myself hanging back sniping/ holding positions in stead of trying to push or flank. I think If his tank had just a little hull armour, so it would get lucky bounces now and then, it would be more of a medium and less td'ish in playstyle.

so is it worth the money? -meh

Go play tetris bot.

Its a Edited new OP tank

Compare Guard /STG with T-34-2 with 122mm gun

#Same Edited armor

# Guard got 212mm pen with 0.33 ACCURACY while T-34-2 got 175mm pen and 0.46 accuracy and this seems fair to you probably , because you probably are a wallet warrior that have all single PREMIUM TANKS in this game.

WG changed its politics from #PREMIUM MORE WEAK THAN TECHTREE TANKS to #PREMIUM BETTER THAN TECHTREE TANKS.

I love to find a STG on battle, every shot in him is like: Good purchase! The tank is a Crysler wannabe.

I'd love to read what you have to say to back that up.

Or even what you think an OP tank is.

I'm sure you do. And looking at your stats, you're either in denial or delusional.

In the last days i have played with STA 1 ant that tank didn't catch me once as being OP. For me, and I am not a good player, that is just another target on the field. But that can be just from the fact that I have been trained in tier 10 all day long, so when I see a tier 8, if the time has come, I farm it like a pig(which I am). So i do not know, I have played so much with STA1 in tier 10, that I am not scared about a tier 8.

Dude, nice trolling if that is what this is :-)

if if you're actually serious first of all the T34-2 is Chinese, not Russian. At least compare the Stg with the Obj416.

Secondly: I've looked at the Stg and simply can't find a reason to buy it. Compared to the other 390 alfa medium premiums, it's not better. Even the unloved T34-3 has advantages over this, especially if you factor in pref MM which even in current broken state is better than nothing. The Rev also way easier to play than this.

At best it's mediocre. Not denying the T34-2 being the worst t8 med out there but it's not a template for comparison.

I blame the Defenders for this. Now everyone expect their premium tanks to be better than the regular tanks. Well done Wargaming!

The STG is a balanced tank that doesn't shine at anything. I didn't get it as I've already got the Rudy, T-44-100 from the marathon, the T-55A (no premium but crew trainer) but it would've been a good pick from what I can see, ASUMING WG fixes the MM.

Since now I grind tier 9 tanks, I have to say that the STG offers no real threat over any of the regular tier 8 tanks and in the battles they do OK. However, some people think this is a Defender or something (the paint job might have something to do with it...) and play it a bit too aggresively. Turret on back and no armor on front means a lot of dudes and dudettes get their "nose" out first and get smacked before they even see the target.
It requires a specific playstyle, sure, but it looks like a decent (read as in not OP or broken) premium tank.

T-34-2 should not be used a yardstick for anything. Every tank on tier 8 is better than the T-34-2.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn't pick up the Guard myself because it looked pretty mediocre to be honest, 416 is it's closest competitor and is just a much better tank.  Plus you have the M4 Rev which is cheaper, has better gun handling and DPM with -10 gun depression, the STB offers little over this.

It's not about being better than regular tanks it's about being competitive, if I pay £30-40 for something I expect it to be good and competitive with the tanks it faces, Guard isn't, it just doesn't have much going for it, basically alpha, ok pen and ok mobility.

There is a level between Defenders and the STG, it's tanks like the M4 Rev, STA-2, Primo Victoria, Lorriane 40T etc.

The STG among mediums is what Defender should have been among heavies, as in: not OP.

Sigh.

On the other hand, amongst the "old" premium tier 8 tanks, it wouldn't have stand out much. I mean the old pre-buff Lowe, the T-34, the JT88 and a few more.

I do notice a trend towards tier 8 premiums that are equal to the best regular tier 8 tanks. Which is kinda sad for those UP regular tier 8 tanks.

I probably wouldn't mind it as much if Wargaming would finally put their act together and repairs a lot of UP tanks out their, before introducing new premium tanks.

And as for me, I didn't buy the STG for the simple fact that I've already bought enough premium tanks lately.
