Is it really any good? Or at least fun?

Asking for a friend. :P

Amazingly fun tank... until you face T7 with that 105mm pen, 75 damage gun.  Still, one of my best performing tanks, thanks to that ridiculous rate of fire.  It gets a solid 5/7 from me.

Matilda Black Prince that goes 40 km /h, basically.

Same gun as MBP ( insignificantly worse stats),on a basically Sherman chassey. One of my favourite tanks in game.

For this price offered today in prem. shop, safe bet.

I bought it long time ago (simply because there was a discount) but later sold it. Not that it was bad, but I figured that I needed the garage slot more than this tank that i never played anyway. If you need a Murican (actually, Canadian) medium crew trainer then Ram is a decent choice, but if you want a T5 pew-pew gun then there are T-34 and Crusader - much faster tanks with usable view ranges, while the blind and slowish Ram imo just doesn't make any sense as a MT.

Very small data set amongst tier V premiums, so the statistics might be slightly off but;

Should really be British, Canada being more affiliated with the UK than then US, particularly back then...

It's probably down to taste, but it's essentially a worse T-34(-57), the only advantage being a decent health pool (610 vs 450). You pay for that with accuracy (0.43 vs 0.34), DPM (~2-300), speed (38/14 vs 56/20), worse view range (330 vs 350m) and even half a degree of gun depression.

It's not a terrible tank for a T5, but aside from the novelty factor of a Canadian tank with an offset turret it has little going for it. That autobounce zone on the frontal armor can be pretty funny, though.

Thanks for the info - just got it, as it is one of those tanks I remember having had a horrible time against when i started. Kinda as iconic for me as the TOG :)

Any particular reason why you haven't even played this 'great old tank', but you still think it's worth recommending? I'd understand if it was the kind of tank that's flat-out superior to most other same-tier premiums, like the Defender or SU-122-44 three years ago, but the Ram isn't even great on paper (vs. T-34(-57)).

What equipment do you run it with?

Rammer, Vents, EGLD? Or optics in there somewhere?

Rammer is not required as aim time sucks. It cant aim between shot even without rammer and GLD. Viewrange sucks even with optics.

Vent, EGLD + your choice between binos / optics

It's not a tank for everyone. But I find it rather fun, and one of the best tier 5 prem's around. Fantastic bully tank for my style when top tier.

Depends on how aggressive you want to be in it. Issue is that even with optics and a good crew, it's still not going to go past 400m in the view range department unless you have BIA, recon and situational awareness to boost it. So it won't be as strong as most tier 5 meds with optic alone that can get it close or past 400m. it's not the worst option mid to late game vs having it on 330m. But if you like the support role more,  then go binocs instead. I play mine aggressive, so aim time is not a factor I worry about. So I went rammer, vents and optics on mine.

If you play it as a sniper waiting for the aim to settle, then yeah. If you are getting in their faces.. then no... aim time is not an important factor. The gun is basically a worse variant of the Matilda Black Prince gun. With less pen, worse dispersion and more ROF, but unlike the Matilda, it's on a mobile platform.

If its better than excelsior by that chart, it means it's really good.

In my experience Rammer, Vents, EGLD over Optics.

Reload is very fast,  that gun needs any aim boost it can get.

I´m interested in a USA medium crew trainer. Sadly I missed the Thunderbolt, so I´m contemplating on wheter or not I should get the Ram II. I also have a 20% off coupon for the next 5 days, thus I would certainly be interested in how the Ram performs today.

I´ve done pretty well in the T-34 with the 57mm pew-pew gun, but that tank can just rush in and rip enemies to shreds. How does the Ram compare to those?
