hiya guys, as the title says. One of the first crews I created I decided to use mentor as the first skill but I can't really tell if it helped much.

ive swapped it out for 6th sense now and then gone with bia, repairs and recon.

so is it worth putting mentor back on now or is it better for grinding a new crew?

Best guide written on crew skills;

http://forum.worldof...ew-skill-guide/

He says;

"If at 100%, the “Mentor” skill will grant all other crew members (the mentees) a 10% crew XP boost. It is a skill, so for each %age point, the crew XP boost is 0,1%.

The skill is odd for various reasons. First, its bonus is multiplicative to the other bonuses instead of being additive.

Then, it does not matter whether the Commander or the mentees or both die, the “Mentor” bonus is still awarded.

Thirdly, if the crew has BiA active, this will grant a flat 0,5% bonus on the “Mentor” skill. E.g. if “Mentor” is at 10%, the crew XP boost will be 1,5% with BiA instead of 1% - at 100% “Mentor” it will be 10,5%.

Anyways, I believe this skill is not as bad as often said to be – it can easily give you an extra 500, or even 1000 crew XP per battle. Of course, skills/perks like Sixth Sense, BiA, Repairs and, depending on the tank type, Camo or JoaT are more valuable. However, there might be cases where you want to consider this skill. You will get the most out of this skill on tanks that do not need that many Commander skills like Heavies, assault TDs, Artillery, et cetera."

Never heard of anyone recommending mentor. You can start your commander with repairs, then pick a second skill like camo (choices depend on tank) until it reaches 25-30% or something, then swap all that for 6th sense. This way you will have some skill in action while you work toward 6th sense. Similar for other crew members, start with repairs or something and work toward BIA and so on from there.

Yung's threads are also good:

I would only use it for heavy tanks that have a full crew, ie. commander, gunner, driver, radio operator, loader.

SS is not a huge priority for most heavies, so you can use mentor to boost the other crew members learning rate.

I would go, mentor, switch to BIA soon as you can, then mentor again, repairs, recon, camo...

Grinding a skill takes multiple 100 matches for me and after almost 20k matches played, I still own just one single crew that has three skills. That said, the other skills are WAY more valuable to have.

The slow progress with skills and the massive bonus you get from paying is one of the major things that desperately need a rework. Skills are a major gamemechanic in the game, yet it's something you merely spend a minute with every 200 matches or so...

Surprising after 17,242 battles. You have a CDC so presumably the crew for that is three perks?

Maybe think about completing the STUG missions to get one full girl crew? The perks on those girls tick over very quickly.

Did you get three Swedish girls at Christmas? Did you put them in the TD or other line?

Maybe buy a Berlin Tank with an hermaphrodite crew?

It is probably worth using after you put all the more useful skills on the commander although at that point it will not matter much I guess.

Honestly, I believe that the crew xp overall could use a rework because after 4th skill or 5th in case you use special crew with BiA it just takes too much to progress. You basically need to play over 10k matches in a premium vehicle and with premium account active while being a good player to get all skills which is just insane. Sure many skills are pretty useless and in most cases 4-5 skill crew already have everything you could need but I still think that it is a bit excessive in its current form. I believe that the xp requirement should stay the same after that 4th/5th skill and not increase further. Even at that point it will take a lot of time to get a new skill but it will not be that insane to the point where you dont feel any progress.

I have a seven skill crew :) I played 5K + games in my e25. They are currently sat in my WT auf Pz. IV with a couple of weaker crew members.

I have  3 full 4 and 5 skill crews in my russian meds as well in Obj 430, T62 and obj140, ( trained in t44/100, t54 mod1 and the TFE thing at T4 )

Cent AX has a 5 skill crew ( trained in Bromwell ) and my Brit T10 has 4/5 skill crew. ( Trained in the a45 )

My is4 crew is 4 skill nearly  5 trained in the is6

Jagdtiger crew is 4 skill trained in Jagdtiger 8.8 etc etc etc

I have 35k games nearly, Id guess I have played at least half my games in Prem tanks. Getting good crew you need to buy prem tanks to get them trained up.

biggest bonus in tanks up to today has been the grilly crews from PMs and Xmas. If you don't grind the PMs for these you are crazy

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll grind new crews with mentor to begin with and then just reset them for the better skills after that.

Ive got 3 crews now that are grinding their 4th skills and it does take ages to do.

I wouldn't like to grind crews without premium and personal reserves, it'd take forever.

I guess it makes sense as the first skill of an arty commander - there is nothing else remarkably useful for him anyway. In other classes, I would never touch this skill, as repair/camo/recon/sixth/BIA/jack are definitely superior.

its always my first skill, then I swap it out for sixth sense then I swap it out again for BIA and then it stays put

as I never drop optics for vents view range skills an wait a bit for me

once you get to 3rd skills you are looking at 1 million+ xp for a skill, a 10% boost is massive

as a bonus if you flick on accelerated training you will always get the 10% bonus on your commander as well as they will always be just behind your crew, even better if you swap a female commander in to a tank with a 3 skill crew, she always be 1 skill behind and you get free sixth sense

The three-skills-crew is in the french light line. I also have one at 2|~80% in my German heavy and one at 2|~40% in one of the TD-lines. Don't remember which one. The rest of my crews is 1|something%. (edit: The American heavy line should have a crew with 2|>50%, too.)

Never cared about the PMs. I have three girls unlocked, but no idea where to put them.

Not sure about the Christmas girls. I might have missed that one.

Anyway - it's too slow. Completely underused gamefeature, except you throw in money.

Mentor, gives 10% extra crew xp.

On the other hand commander lost 100% of his one skill - in favor of the mentor skill.

if you compare that 2 - 5 crew member (depends on crew size) gets extra 10% vs commander lost 100% of one skill. it is clearly does not worth it.

The only exception could be when your commander has already gratis BIA, but the rest of the crew does not.
