given the time WG says it takes to do HD maps, and how many they still have to do AND new game engine can we expect maps soon?  can they run two game engines side by side or use new engine for old maps?

edit  because they look amazing and I don't want to wait lol

They said no to running both game engines side by side.

I suspect they will release it with maybe 15 maps done, and TBH the download will be big enough just for that for a lot of people, and then drop the rest in as a micropatch when they are ready.

Just because it takes two months to do a map doesn't mean they will be two months apart.  I would expect several maps to be worked on in parallel.

but can they run both maps on 1 engine?  presumably the HD maps wont work on old engine so will the old maps work on new engine?

Why wouldn't they run on the old engine? AFAIK the sandbox runs on the old engine and it works just fine with the new maps, what with sandbox bugs and stuff.

isnt the sandbox  coming along with 12 HD maps ?

also would it be a real new engine ?

or would it be the next stage of BW 1 engine ?

or would they start to use BW2 engine ?

back in the days they stated that changing the game to BW2 would be rather hard as textures objects etc wouldnt be compatible and they more or less would have to do the game from the scratch again

on the other side BW1 would be about 12 years old now  so adding multicore support havoc etc had been a big issue that werent able to fix just by upgrading the bw1 engine

so im not really sure what we will get

Sandbox is running the new engine.

They have said no to having old and new maps together.

I'll be happy with a dozen maps at release it will give us more chance to learn them.

Three which are not being converted are the copy maps (winter Ruinberd and Himmelsdorf and Fiery Salient), three (Stalingrad, Pilsen and Karkov) are rubbish anyway.  So that's 6 they don't need to waste time remaking.

That's what they are telling us.

It's a new, in house developed client engine with some Havok bits as well.  It may still be BugWorld on the server side.  I thought they switched to BW2 years ago though.

personally I like Stalingrad and Kharkov, really good maps

Now, Delete Paris, Pilsen, Mountain pass, windstorm, ruinberg, live oaks, highway and we are getting somewhere

i just watched QBs peak on the maps and i must say, even I'm not playing WoT i will definitely come back and play them.

this looks as good direction, sadly they have the capacity problems but lets be fair, there is not many skilled and talented people which are able to do such work out there....so i guess we just need to wait
