I had a short chat with Asklepios today, which revealed why we don't get any information about anything from our moderators. It is apperently not their job to keep the community informed about what is up at wargaming.

Spoiler

I was so wrong, I thought the job of our moderators was to keep the community they work with informed about what is going on at WG, upcomming deals, when contact list will be fixed, if ever.

So now I just wonder, is there anyone at WG who's work it is to give the community information.

He is working at a company with the community, if I had such a job, I would think that in my job I had to know and be able to answer stuff the community wants to know about.

Unless his only job is to ban people who say nasty stuff on the forum and in general game chat.

Also, it makes me wonder, who the Edited should we try to ask for information if we can't ask the only guys we have some lose contact with (moderators)? Because, apparently it is not in their job.

This post has been edited by the moderation team due to swearing.

Which are guys it is impossible to get in contact with. Just like Phelan (I PM'd essentially the same question to Phelan, no answer in 1 week).

Since it is rather impossible to get in contact with anyone at WG regarding this, except some moderator, we are looking at an extremely bad company.

When I was a pub/club manager I employed door staff to control the crowds but they would also inform customers if the Friday night band had been cancelled. This is probably a terrible comparison but I finished work early and just for a change ....went to the pub.

Exactly. But it seems like there are quite different interpretations of the term "moderate".

Here it means exclusively closing threads (every now and then) without any further comment about the topic.

Why on earth would you think that moderators were anything other than moderators? You are brighter than that.

Because I imagine that a moderator should work with the community and try to help the community understand what WG does and doesn't do. Have some information about pressing issues in the game etc.

And not only ban people who misbehave.

But that seems to be extremely naive.

Though on the other hand, Phelan doesn't want to a question about the broken contact list either. So maybe it isn't his job either.

Which just leads to the question, is there anyone at WG EU who is actually working with informing the community about stuff at all....

Define moderator:

A. a substance used in a nuclear reactor to retard neutrons.

B. a person who moderates an Internet forum or online discussion

so there we have it unless we are dealing with nuclear fusion the answer must be B.

If you think that they don't do their job well that's another story, the issue here is that you ( not actually you ) blame the exhaust because the wheels wont turn !

It isn't a moderators job to liaise with the playing community. It is their job to moderate people who should behave better than they do behave and arrange the posts so they are in the right places. If sometimes a moderator can discover what is happening, such as chat downtime, then that is a bonus, not an expectation, and we should be thankful for that.

But yes, WG's interaction with the player base is appalling, but given the hostility of some players I can see why they wouldn't want to get into a direct slanging match. My guess would be if people could moderate their own reactions to match some form of civilised behaviour then WG may be more willing to have a civilised conversation. But given the extreme reactions by players to almost any small grievance I can't imagine that ever happening.

I was digging road at work today and a man in a car asked me when the road would be open. I said it would be open tomorrow. I now understand my mistake. I should have said my job is to dig road. He need to speak to my boss.

From a few hints dropped to me, it is indeed paid.

You're right, it is your job to dig the road, not provide answers to Joe Public. The fact you happened to have an answer doesn't change your job. You could just have easily have given an incorrect answer because as it's not your job to know when the road is opening your manager would not have bothered to tell you that he'd just been asked to dig up another part of the road. He was going to tell you tomorrow morning when you arrive for work.

Equally it's not the moderators job to know when stuff is being fixed, it's his job to moderate. If his job role was community relations advisor then yes, it would be his job to provide information.

Well, I'm sure from experience of you digging roads in the past would give you some idea of the approximate time frame for a finish. Sure even your foreman would be telling you when he needs the job to be finished as running over on time can result in a reduction in profit with penalty clauses.

Moderators don't code or debug games.....so how can they tell if something is going to get finished/fixed when they don't even know the people who do the fixing? A coders boss would not be shouting at moderators to do a job which has nothing to do with them.
