Got a 30% discount (excludes: gold, limited time offers, discounted tanks and special offers), which leaves - not a lot. Basically the ropey dopey tech tree tanks and premium time.

Not gonna buy premium time, it'll just encourage me to play more than I want to.

So given the current state of MM at tier 8, is it worth buying a Super Pershing for £16.50?

Have Lowe, Rev, 112 which I'm happy with.

Answer this quick checklist to see what you should do.

Spoiler

If you have more "no" answers than "yes" answers, you shouldn't buy the tank you are thinking of.

Personally I still use the SP as a main income machine as it's cheap as chips to run, as the shells don't cost over 1K each to name one. It's AP pen is not worthless, it's gold pen can deal with anything if need be. Still valid on the medium line. Not that good on the HT lines anymore. I know many hate the tank now, but I still enjoy mine.

I guess the only thing it boils down to is, do you enjoy slow mediums, and do you mind having no armor on the rear and side when you get flanked with a "meh" traverse. And do you mind having frontal armor that kinda works half the time in tier 8/9 games? But it still works when top tier. Tho the armor still works on med to long range, but it's no sniper.

One thing tho.. it's rather crew dependent. I play mine with a 5 skilled crew. And I notice a huge difference on some aspects when I train a new crew.

Lets see £16.50 that's not even half an hours wage for a senior programmer,

So ye i think that's a decent price.

For £5 I'd say maybe.

Based on general gist of your post, have you considered simply not buying anything?

Discount is not saving you money if it makes you spend money you wouldn't spend otherwise:

If you need something and you buy it at full price, you pay full price.

If you need something and you buy it discounted, you save the discounted value.

If you don't need and you buy it, you lose amount paid, be it full or fraction.

Since you already have premtanks you like, and you stated that you want to limit your play (what with saying you won't buy premium as it would make you play more), it appears to me that you neither need nor actually want another tank. Better save full price by not buying at all. Instead consider shelling out a fraction for some bonus beer, or whatever you enjoy.

TBH the only reason I want it, is because it always seems unbelievably hard to pen from the front when I'm playing against it.

But the drawbacks you list do feel kinda dealbreaking.

I just played a game in SU 14 2 arty and noticed the SP couldn't over take me when positioning at the start of the game ... I thought the Lowe was slow.

You are probably right.

I would have bought Gold with it though. Take note WG.

Plenty of staff needs food, you know. Not sure what CCs eat, though, but I'm sure it's not takeaway.

Anyway, while it's sure not a bad price, do you really need it? It's probably a decent tank, but everyone and their mother knows the weakspots on it. T8 PMM has grown a bit stale too, though the Superpershing does have some advantage in it being a medium tank - unlike e.g. FCM which gets matched as a HT - even with the MM refinements 9.20.1 brought (which is partly why KV-5 is so fun now too; it gets matched against Defenders, O-Hos and VKPs).

Yeah tbh it's not for everyone, this is a premium you either love or hate. There is no middle ground. And it's even slower if you lack off road driving etc on some maps. Tho as I said,  you can sitll play the med lines aggressive if you don't mind being a little late. It's still an effective tank. But if mobility is still an important aspect, then no.

It isn't. Face hug it and shoot the turret ring (you can even hit that at distance it's that big. You'll pen it every time.

I quite like my SP, as mentioned it's AP pen is decent so is a decent money maker. Decent players will pick your weakspots apart but there is enough baddies to still make it a lotta fun most of the time.

Yeah, not everyone knows about that, or even do that. Most know about the tubes on the roof. But you would be amazed on how many go for the hull, or even the lower plate when I play it. But even when they go for those, most big guns can easily pen it. Thus why I said the armor is not that great vs most tier 8 guns, or tier 9 guns. But as top tier you can be rather aggressive, as most still have no idea how to deal with it. I mean that's basically why it was nerfed in the first place. To protect tomatoes.

If you encounter a good player you'll find he or she will make you feel you have no armour at all. Happens to me if I play in  it.

Lovely memoroes of weaker players dinging tho'.

The main reason I sold mine back when they offered full gold refund was the lack of penetration coupled with the lack of mobility meant it needed pretty much a full premium ammo loadout.  That was before I became a fully fledged Dinger though.

It's had a mobility and penetration buff since then.

£16.50 is less than a round of drinks or a meal out. The fun that is the Spershing will last much longer than either of those. BUY.

SP is an interesting tank. Many players dont' know how to reliably pen it, so it actually offers fairly decent protection. But it is slow as a heavy.

In short, if you want to spend money on WOT, SP is perhaps one of those prems that is worth it. But I would not be surprised, if it will be a prize tank for some marathon like the one I got mine in. At least we had wz-111 twice.

These coupons with excessive restrictions are ridiculous. I've even received one that emphasized that it's for ANYTHING in premium shop and it still only worked on half of the things.
