Hi guys,

Maybe if you have the experience you can help guide me towards some of the best of medium tanks in the game. I was putting off bothering with grinding higher tier mediums since I just hadn't the time but with winter and the long dark evenings, holidays coming etc, I will have more time to enjoy this game.

What I have done is arranged pretty most of the tier9 mediums, equipped them with rammer, vents and verts where applicable and to the auto-loaders where rammer is not an option, I equipped optics. They are all also featured with BIA, Snap Shot, Smooth Ride and Situ Awareness which are skills and perks I know I will have and already do have on most of my lower tier mediums.

https://tanks.gg/compare/amx-30?e=18.21.30&k=0.3.8.9&t=b-c-25-t-ap___18.5.30__0.3.8.9~centurion-71___18.21.30__0.3.8.9~e-50___18.21.30__0.3.8.9~leopard-pt-a___18.21.30__0.3.8.9~m46-patton___18.21.30__0.3.8.9~skoda-t-50___18.30.5__0.3.8.9~t-54___18.21.30__0.8.9.3~t54e1___18.30.5__0.3.8.9~type-61___18.21.30__0.3.8.9

Take a look at the list when you have the time, trim away what tanks you would not recommend, leave the tanks you would and tell me why you feel they are the best all round mediums for the tier. Also can you tell me which has the nicer tier8 and tier10 offerings. Tier8 I will obviously have to grind through and spend a lot of time with and ultimately the tier10 is the end result so maybe one of those lines has an "all tiers are great" option? Also, what lines are just rotten?

Thanks :)

P.S. I know you might think maybe I could just look at reviews and what not but the game is ever changing and what was said and valid about a tank several patches ago may not be valid right now with the latest patch.

Dunno how your playstyle is but if you are good in paper tanks then totaly pick leo pta, Dunno whats up with this tank but i do 4-5k dmg every other game  and 3k on decent games, 93% on 3rd mark in 120 games :o

Get ready for a long painful stock grind tho that pays tenfold once upgraded

Edit, the short list, in order of importance.

1. Sharp, reliable gun handling while peaking out and snap shot

2. Mobility

3. Stealth and view range

4. High standard AP velocity

5. High standard AP pen

What I don't like

1. Close quarters fighting, brawling, face-hugging

2. Really slow standard AP shell velocities

3. Big chunky armored, slow tanks or poor mobility that can't turn hull or turret that quickly

4. Horrible gun handling

5. Terrible standard pen that needs an all gold ammo loadout, where the 2 key is now the 1 key

Honestly my favorite playstyle was light tanks and tank destroyers and this is pretty much all I have at tier9 but I don't really enjoy that anymore since all the changes and maps are more urban and close quarters type of stuff. Umm.. I don't particularly like the face hugging brawling type game or hanging around buildings all game long. I guess I like the more agile tanks that can get about the map and have a bit of stealth, view range and accuracy to their game that rely more out-witting the enemy player than just out lasting or having chunky/bouncy armor. Really don't like slow tanks if any of them are and I really don't like guns with really unreliable handling and accuracy since RNG is enough to deal with without some soft stats and "wtf was that??" moments. Decent standard pen is always nice too just keep the credit munching or "press 2" all the time less of a factor.

In terms of what you said I'd recommend AMX 30 and Skoda T 50.

I'm glad you said that actually, it looks really good on paper and what I'd naturally look for in a tank but I never see many when I play my tier7-9 tanks so I though maybe there was something bad with them.

Skoda T-50 is *very* powerful, however apart from the T-25 that line is garbage so there is a lot of suffering before you get to the good one.

Leopard PTA is one I recently rediscovered and it's completely unsuitable to brawl with,  but you can't beat that gun with 268 pen. Also has good viewrange and ok camo when equipped with a good crew and modules.

I guess AMX 30 is harder to grind now, whereas Skoda isn't a tank for noobs.

But that is the problem with every tier 9. Don't think I can name a more problematic stock gameplay than on tier 9.

This basically says leo pta. I haven't played it since the gun depression got changed from -6 to -8, but before that patch it already was amazing. You will love it.

I'm liking those options, in particularly the AMX 30 and the Leo PTA which could NOT suit me more to grind right now since I have excellent crews available for both lines. Can start grinding both from tier6 immediately. On the German tech tree the SPIC is unlocked and I just need to buy it along with crew can be trained over from the tier6 VK1P medium I'm selling which was nice but just not what I was looking for really with that slow vel short 88 and it's loose gun handling vs the crisp gun on the tier6 VK2M medium I have(plus the VK2M looks like a Panther which is unbelievable cool tbh). The tier8 Indien Panzer looks pretty awesome too, kinda like a mini LOWE but I don't know anything about it.

On the French side I have the tier6 AMX 12-T unlocked and ready to buy, will finally sell the much missed ELCbis and move crew to AMX along with having several unclaimed girls(sounds seedy) from 2nd PM missions I completed but never claimed yet so that will be two excellent crewed tanks straight from the off and I have good experience with autoloaders from my pre-nerfed Bulldog and 59-16 days but gotta let em go and move on, that was then and this is now.

Thanks guys. This all came about from me recently purchasing a T-43 and looking at the tier8 and tier9.. not impressed tbh so don't wan't to waste my time on tanks I won't like. T-43 is ok but its just a T34-85 gun on a slightly better tank vs many tier8 and 2 tier9 tanks.. NOT COOL lol.. the tier8 T-44 has either that medieval face hugging low pen, 10 year aim time, inaccurate boom stick from the IS practically which I can only imagine is utter crap to play on a medium tank while the other option is one of the lowest shell velocities of tier8, no thanks... and the tier9 T-54 which is VERY popular has no gun dep, pathetic shell velocities and the worst pen of a tier9 I've ever seen so I know why it gets the name the HEAT-54, credit muncher, NO THANKS.. Thanks again guys you really did help and saved me wasting my time on the Russian line

PTA was always fun. It became much better after some buffs until AMX30 1er arrived. Then PTA got some more love to get on the AMX30 prot. level. Then, WG in their limitless and infinite wisdom, gave AMX30 a workable mantlet.

I completely skipped that tank with HWK12 leo pta uses the same skillset as a light tank so i just grinded it with HWK12 transfered the crew on leo an carried on.

Indien has the word ''decent'' all over it i think it recieved a depression buff not long time ago, but the current t8 mm put me off from playing it

Vk30.01 is a great t6 medium tank, really like that tank. The Indien panzer is not loved by everone, but I always liked  the looks (mini-löwe indeed) and the properties of the gun (penetration, accuracy, reload, gun depession).

The VK1P? great mantlet armor around the gun and looks very Tiger1 like which is pretty cool and I would think it is much more user friendly than the tier6 Tiger1 options with the same short88 since the VKP is a medium tank and as such is pretty quick once it gets up a head of steam and has very nice camo so can sneak around.

Turns like a barge however and the I never was confident with the short 88 which I felt had very dubious gun handle that was VERY sensitive to the slightest movement of the mouse resulting in some pretty wild shooting to say least coupled with the derp like and very unusable shell velocity of the standard AP rounds so I had to play it with the 2 key presses liberally. Prefer the VK1M instead and want the crew for the SPIC so just sold it a minute ago.

Stats were not too bad with it that said. 90 battles, 60% win rate, 2+ kill/death ratio, various medals and 2 MoE, so long little Tiger thingy...

Ok so as luck would have it, the tier6 AMX was on a 30% discount for some reason I bought it just now and need you guys to help once again. The French experts this time, this is really important since these 3 crew will take a very long adventure together through the tiers as I make my way towards that Tier9.

So what skills should I reset too? equipment and playstyle do these AMX tanks best suit?

It's an autoloader which is nice since it literally forces us to not fill an equipment slot with a rammer. I put on vents and optics but what for the 3rd slot? This is based on role this tank would best serve? I have verts in the depot ready to equip?

I also have 2 female crew ready to claim if needs be? I guess I will use at least 1 female crew... does this mean I should change the male crew to BiA or else the female crew is wasted? Also I could race through the Heavy Tank missions for a 3rd female crew but I was hoping to put 1 female crew in both the French and German SPIC(which I will buy on discount whenever)

Cobra 6

Added to this .... the t8 and even the t7 kinda play like a CDC with lower depression.

And the t9 (Skoda T50), has one of the worst grinds in the game, you need to get about 140k xp to unlock all the mods, and most of them are beyond necesary.

It's kinda like the WZ-120, it takes an ungodly amount of XP to fully unlock it.

Making it worse, it's a t9, so it gets good MM, more often top tier, and if you get in a 2 tier battle with it top tier .... it will be a hard grind. :)

Regarding the OP's list ...

Type 61 kinda blows.

AMX 30 is strong in it's tier, not so sure on the BC 25t ap, but it probably is.

E50 is considered stronger than the T10, tier for tier (same with the amx 30 tbh).

T-54e1 is super troll frontally, but it has low pen.

I don't see the WZ-120 in the list though. :)

Top of the tree is AMX 13 105 this month, so the entire line is on discount.

Considering that the T8 is a huge intersection in that tech tree, i advise you to grind your way up to it, and grind the t8 itself and crews on it/on the t6.

3 man crews that work on the t6-8-10 lights also work on the t9-10 batchat autoloader meds.

Top of the tree is an unbelievable chance to get some 1-2 extra crews for the 25t line, the 13 90 later on and maybe even the 13 105.
