To those who do not know World of Warship was more or less released on Steam.

As far as I can see it the same game, but you cannot log in to the Steam version with a old account.

You have to make a new account for some reason.

But you are support to play with old account anyway.

A bit confusing and kinda dumb if you ask me.

Now if they did the same thing to World of Tanks, then they could choose what that those new account can use.

So they could make the E-25, Defender, artillery and other unwanted tank unavailable to the new accounts.

And because they are unavailable to the new accounts, they will not be able to face them in battle.

Because if they could it would be unfair. Because they can not unlock or buy them.

So this could be considered legal and fair because they are not doing anything to the old accounts.

Just give leaving the MM where old account and new account can play together.

Not that it will matter much to me, I will just keep playing this version and face any undesirable enemy tanks with a smile and a unbelievable urge to destroy.

Scratching head and rubbing chin thoughtfully usually works, but nope, I still don't get it.

Ok. You will get the short version.

WG has release World of Warship on Steam.

The Steam version can only be played if you make a new account.

If WG release World of Tank on Steam, it would be safe to say that the do the same.

So you need a new account to play on the Steam version.

This new account could in theory have some tanks unavailable.

Simply because you can not get them on the Steam store or because they are not on the tech tree on the new Steam accounts.

Conclusion a Steam version, could be a "clean" version.

I think most players who'd spent time and money on the game would just see this as f*cking them over.

As far as I can tell they are the same game, just with a different launcher.

But I cannot confirm it because WoT Blitz was already bound this account to Steam and I do not feel like unbinding it just to test.

Same here, nothing is really ringing a bell here...

WoWS launched on Steam, yes, and there is no way to merge an existing account to a steam account, so if you have an existing account you won't be able to get steam support with it, but all new accounts created through steam will play on the same servers as all old WG accounts. I see no problem here, as an account created NOW on steam is exactly the same as creating an account NOW from wargaming.net, with the only difference being one can be accessed through steam and the other can't.

It's the same game! Same premium shop, same market deals, same everything, only thing that's gonna be different is login details. So no, you won't have a disparity between "steam users" and "old players" any more than you now have with "new players" and "old players". That's all it is. New players would be given the chance to create an account with already existing steam login details.

True, but some players are thinking this because artillery or the defender is in the game.

WG could also just add few things the PC version of Blitz, like...

15 v 15 game mode.

HD tanks

HD maps

Improved handling.

And you have something that come close to the normal version of WoT.

And if it's a "separate" game vs this PC version. What prevents them from selling it later? Nothing, as they can add as they see fit later for all you know. Then again, nothing prevents them from making different stat on any tank if it's a separate version and adding it. Like the IS-6 on blitz that has a 230 pen gun. You could use the same argument about the console version when it came. But even they sell tanks PC thought was to broken for sale.

They launch WoT 2.0 with all the new shiny maps as a new game, without arty (of course!) and 'unwanted tanks' as you said.

They then offer all WoT 1 accounts to gain access to their former tanks/crew on WoT 2, provided those tanks exist.

Could work :)

There's a simple workaround, involves removing one file from the Warships folder and you're presented with the usual login screen, allowing use of your old account.

ANd what about the old accounts? WOuld they jst shut down the servers and force us all to play on steam? Which would also involve starting from scratch to grind the techtrees. Yes, I'm sure that would go over really well.

If WG (and by the way, it's not GW, check your title) was willing to alienate their customers this way, they'd just remove the premium tanks from the game and laugh in our faces.

Just nod and look wistfully into the distance, I don't think this one is harmful just equal parts confused and confusing.
