How come is it that whenever I plutoon up with a friend of mine as a tier 8 we get tier 10 games, but when I play solo with one of my tier 10's I, at least, up till now always get tier 10 only games? I don't understand the way that works. I understand the prioritizing or placing tier 10's against tier 10's but wouldn't prioritizing placing tier 8's against tier 8's be a thing then? Wouldn't adjusting the algorithm for matchmaking to around 1 tier below or over be a better choice all in all? Might be stupid but whatever.

we don't know. all we know is tier 8 platoons rarely get to be the "3" or "5" in 3/5/7 so my advice is to play platoons with tier 7s or 9s?

I'll explain it more clearly:

Platoon MM gets weighted heaviers then solo-play, meaning that your T8 tanks in a platoon invariably end up in lots & lots of TX matches. Want less TX matches in a T8? Don't toon up. The MM favours 3-5-7, because WG believes this is the best MM format, allowing you to stomp all over the others when toptier. Trade-off is that you get to 'enjoy' alot more bottomtier games.

Why don't you see alot of T8 when you play TX tanks? Because of the high number of TX tanks in play & the limiting number of T9 tanks. The MM favours 3-5-7 (as mentioned above) & there's simply not enough T9 & T8 tanks around to satisfy the 3-5-7 format for TX tanks. Want it more? Then the trade-off is that T8 would be bottomtier eternal & T9 midtier eternal. Not too bad a deal for T9 perhaps, but would be one massive dealbreaker for T8 players.

one answer could be that more players are choosing to take a T8 into battle than they are T9 & T10. Vbaddict site shows around twice as many T8 are being played than the other tiers. This imbalance could lead to more T8's being put as bottom tier in order to prevent longer waiting times for the T9's &T10's.

I take out my KR, I get TierX almost every time. My KR is one of my fav tanks and it sucks that I can't play it like I used to when I bought it 2 (or 3) years ago. I take out my T54-mod, and I get a good spread of 8,9,X battles.  Essentially, I play with different tanks now since WG seems to punish me for playing my KR.  Forget platoons as we always seem to get the "7" in the current MM.  We celebrate when we are not lowest tier.

MM is getting better but tier8 MM seems to be a difficult thing.  Luckily I still have plenty of tier 7's and 9's to take out that I like.
