as if ±25% RNG wasn't enough now shells started to go through enemy vehicles.

I can't help but wonder if there was another vehicle behind, would the shell go through of it as well or would it damage it..

It's called lag, you get it in all online games.

Lag.

It's simply what is shown on your client differs from what the server sees and the server is always right.

If you've ever used the server reticle, you'd notice it always lags too. It stutters and moves in increments. Your client just missed the latest update to the reticle just before pulling the trigger so you missed.

I have always been using server reticle but if it misses the updates then why is there a such thing as server reticle. we already play this game with this stupid RNG factor, (which doesn't care how long you aimed for even though you aim for years if it wants you to miss you miss from 200 meters. btw there is no such thing in real life. gunners and guns of the vehicles were capable of hitting targets from 1.5 - 2km. but in WOT you aim for lower hull from 200 meters and it shoots above and misses a house-size vehicle.) and now we are subject to the chance factor of server-reticle-update-catch?

Could also be that the shell went through the tiny gap between the turret and the glacis plate.

Could be people nit-picking at the slightest imperfection in a client-server based multiplayer game which with the best will in the world will never be perfect.

It clear that the guy OP shot buys Fort Knoxes on a regular basis.

You never had a shell that obviously missed but still did damage to the target?

There is still a delay between you and the server. And the server will always be ahead of you. The client tracer is only a delayed representation of what the server says, and is not 100% ever. . Thus why the tanks blow up before your tracer hits it.

Most ghost shells is just that, a delay. Most that scream ghost shell show images like this, the shell going in the lower plate at a high angle, and out the wheels on the other side vs a moving target. When the server said the shell went in front of the tank, not in it. It's just that the client is running on past events vs the server. And since the target is moving, server says he missed. But the delayed response on his client said he hit the lower plate.

I don't see the ping on your screens. But for all we know if he was reversing, the shell could have gone behind him on the server, and due to the delay. The client says you hit the side. And in cases like this, the server wins. Not the client.

It's a small price to pay to have server side calculations.

That's skill, obviously. We're talking about RNG here and OP demands you agree with him.

The server will always be ahead of you in regard to what other players are doing and behind you with regard to what you are doing.

Even if server side reticule was 100% perfect (which is not possible for physics reasons) there is no server side enemy tanks display option.

as I've understood, OP has the information about the lag, server reticle and ghost shells.

And he is asking why this thing is still not solved??

and I can respect that..

Well the main problem and main reason hacks like in other titles don't and can't work is because data is managed by the server between 2 clients. While this is a nice protection it also adds more delay to what is actually happening. Add client ping since some still have either potato internet or live in Antarctica, packetloss and voilá you have a ghost shell. But that should be obvious by now for most people but OP.

The server reticule "guesses".  a guess can be wrong.
