Guys,

I am hoping soon that WG will offer a 30% discount on T8 Premium Tanks very soon, if you bought one of these what would you buy and why?

Many Thanks

SS

What do you wish to achieve by purchasing a T8 premium tank?

Most often the goal is credits and crew training. It makes sense to get a tank that 'fits' with lines you are currently grinding. Getting a T8 premium tank that you don't have any crew for is generally a bad idea. Also, while T8 premiums are touted as good credit earners, they have really harsh matchmaking. Furthermore, you have ~110 battles at T7. None at T8.
Even getting a good T8 premium that can use one of your current crews might give disappointing results. I believe it's more about potential for credit earning. If you play a T6 premium well, you can likely earn more than by playing a T8 badly - though you'll make credits anyway. This is not about how well you do, but literally about how much experience you have so far in the game.

At a glance there aren't really any T8 premiums I'd recommend that fits your T6/7 tanks well. I'd wait for some offers on T6/7 tanks. They make fairly good credits as well - and chances are they'll be much more enjoyable to play.

If you like the T-34-85, I can recommend getting a T-34-85M or a Rudy. Both are very similar, with increased credit gain over their 'normal' counterparts. If you enjoy the SU-100, the SU-122-44 can be workable - but note that it has to face bigger, nastier tanks with the same gun (albeit with a much higher rate of fire). Works if you actually move in your SU-100.

The 'IS-2B' is also a decent pick. Less armor than the KV-3, but the same 122mm gun and more speed. Hard to go wrong with it, and fairly easy to play.

If you want to start a new crew, the WZ-120G FT (Chinese TD) is very similar to the SU-100. If you have a girl crew member ready to go, it's not a bad idea to use her for that - you really want sixth sense on a T8 tank. Overall one of the best T8 premiums, and fairly usable even against much bigger tanks.

I was really hoping for a few more opinions than just one.

Anyways

Aikl,

Thanks so much for your comprehensive feedback on whether I should purchase a T8 Premium Tank. I have read your post twice and understand your logic, I really enjoyed playing with the SU-100, especially with the 122mm gun. I was considering the SU-122-44, it is a very impressive TD, but I can see the its positives and negatives, as you pointed out.

Thanks so much.

SS

Alternatively, the Panther M10 can be a very good credit earner. It has cheap ammo and gets prefential matchmaking, so you don't need to fire premium ammo very often.

It should indeed be the first suggestion for 'first higher-tier premium', but not very useful for OP for crew training - as his name implies  he's mostly about Soviet tanks (and US TDs, apparently).

I don't see what's so impressive about the SU-122-44. I used to like it, got it to like 92% MoE and then gave up. Bad pen, bad accuracy, bad aim time and dispersion, pointless armor, mediocre mobility, no view range, terrible gun depression and left/right gun traverse. Only good things about it are camo and alpha. I don't count DPM since that only ever works if you manage to somehow flank someone and don't get 2 shot by his friend. The ammo count isn't high enough to let you just spam shells and the 217 or whatever premium pen is what it should have stock.

It's indeed lacking in the current meta, but if the OP actually likes using the SU-100 (or SU-152 with the 122mm for reasons unknown) as an assault gun it might not be all that bad, as noted above. Might be preferable to getting a T8 premium medium like the T-44-100 or T-54 Prot. Both are decent tanks, but small-gun medium tanks can be hard to work with in T10 games.

Your best bet is winning that random 20% coupon.
