There is no unit cap at the moment. When will WG implement one? Other franchises like Total war have a unit cap system to make it more balanced. WG seriously need to take this step forward if they truly want to make this game balanced and enjoyable for players.

Sorry to old, would you mind explaining what a unit cap is.

I first thought it was an item of clothing WG was selling:)

Eh ? what you mean unit cap ?.

Are you talking about the number of tanks we can have in that case NO WAY IN HELL.

what difference does it make how many tanks we have we can only use 1 at a time.

You mean like the arty cap?

 

So we can make every single battle exactly the same?

 

Sounds terribly boring.

Other franchises like Star Wars also have spaceships.
And Monster Hunter has dinosaurs.
We need both of that to balance the game.

For example in the total war franchise ...there are OP units that have a limit as to the number of them that can enter a match .So in this case....especially with the badger infestation and the FV infestation , I suggested that the same feature could be implemented.

 

So in a 15 v 15 match

 

2 BC max

1 FV4005 max

1 FV215B 183 max

1 Type 5 heavy max

....

 

and so on

 

So each time a new matchup is decided by the algorithm,  a more playable environment is available to people of ranging competencies, i.e, no OP tank spam or game breaking mms.

You do realize the problems that would cause when forming the teams? Like, for instance, the wait time?

Considering some tanks are more popular then others. Even more so when there is a new line or a new tank added. The only thing you will do then, is let half the people in wait for tier X just stay there. It's like the Halloween event. Some got in instantly. Others had to wait 5 min to even get a game with 5K in line for it, as one tank was more popular then the other.

 

Sure you might have more "fun" in your under powered tanks. But I suspect more people would be less happy with it,  and it would break more then it would fix for more people then it does now.

 

And what about platoons? Should you limit platoons to one Type 5 just like arty? Yeah... that would be popular when half the tanks on tier X can't even platoon.

So basically, you want the MM to be ruined to the point we'll have to wait almost 5 minutes to get into a battle, which ends in less time than we spent waiting for it?

that all depends on wargamings competency

 

And clearly other franchises have worked out the problem....

 

FYI check out Total war : Shogun 2 online mm

 

worked just fine 

 

(released in 2011 and became one of the best strategy games of the year)

We already have that kinda with the template MM:

a) Tanks per tier are limited to 3/5/7/10/15 depending on template

b) Classes are mostly mirrored

c) As of 9.20.1 it also attempts to mirror roles (e.g. Autoloader against Autoloader)

 

Adding a hardcap per individual tank on top of that might break the MM algorithm completely. Also it'd be tricky to combine with platoons.

They already have a unit cap as each player can only select one tank to play.

Why leave it there? Lets match unelited tanks, crew experience, ammo, equipments, consumables.

I wonder what the devs do with the money they get?

I wonder what the super test / common  test servers are for?

 

the platooning feature and other related stuff can be worked on... these aren't impossible. WG is just making the problem sound bigger

 

This is exactly where WG can prove whether they are committed to making the game balanced or are just in for them premium sales...

Either they get a huge thumbs up if they succeed or just dwindle with time..

 

But I can say with confidence that majority of players aren't very skilled so obviously an mm as of now that simply makes it difficult to play properly at tier 10 (not talking about them unicorns with their 6 skilled tanks) just wont cut it. Not to mention badger spams...

The wait time is the time it takes to get into a game after pressing 'Battle'. The concern is that your imaginary algorithm refines the match making to such an extent that it becomes an increasingly rare event that enough players with exactly the right tanks are online and ready for a battle at the same time.

Taking the Badger as an example: The reason you see so many of them is that there are a lot of people playing them (rather obvious statement, I know). If you limit it to 1 per match, that leaves the other, say, 4 people waiting for another match up. While hey are waiting, 5 other people queue up in their Badger. The queue is now 9 Badgers. Two find another match (against each other). Queue down to 7, 4 more join, queue up to 11. See where that is going?

The OP makes a poor choice in choosing the Badger anyway because just like the E25 it will become a self limiting exercise as players decide whether they enjoy it, the fashion wanes, or another tank eventually usurps it. It is the same with any new tank.
