Quick question folks.

What's the best US Med crew trainer?  I'm assuming waiting for the Thunderbolt to be available again is the smart move?

Yes I know it was day 7 of the advent calendar so it may be awhile before it's available again.  I wasn't looking for a crew trainer last week!

I wouldn't buy any tier 6 or tier 8 premium atm unless it's an overpowered ( currently not available because reasons until they need money ) russian heavy / medium / TD.

Thunderbolt or Fury. Even though I also have the Ram II (Tier V) and its quite a fun (high RoF) tank. Furthermore, depends on what you mean by best? Thunderbolt & Fury have differences that would influence any advice. Compare both on tanks.gg and pick whichever suits your style best.

Consideration is pure crew training.  I figured out that this is not a game about tanks it's a game about crew management and progression.  So yeah, crew layout is far more important than credit income for example.

It seems WG have successfully trolled me, after being unenthusiastic about the current xmas calendar I find that my latest idea for a project means I've missed not one but two tanks that would have been useful.

Well played WG, well played.  :teethhappy:

Well since you can only basically get the T34 or the Super Pershing i would get the t34 then retrain your crew to mediums.

i would wait to see what the rest of the advent tanks are first though.

I have almost all of them bar the M4A2E4 Sherman and the T95E6.

I'd personally say the Thunderbolt, it's pretty powerful top tier whilst being versatile enough as a medium for other roles.

The Patton KR and T25 Pilot are both very similar these days, and like other tier 8 tanks suffer a lot from the MM getting tier 10 all the time. If tier 8 MM was fixed they are pretty solid choices as they are good all round mediums and mirror the tech tree line very well in being good all rounders, with fairly strong turrets and good gun handling.

The Thunderbolt power creeps the Fury a little IMO, the T95E2 is poor, the Super P is a little slow for my liking, the M4 Improved the pen is too poor and the Ram 2 is a little too slow as well.

The T23E3 will probably never appear again and the M60 is now a poor mans M48 Patton.

Overall the Thunderbolt at the moment, can't see why it wouldn't go on sale again, if they fix the MM then the T25 Pilot and M46 KR are also solid choices.

Just to note all of them below tier 9. mirror the crew layout of the M46 Patton, 5 man crew with a separate radio man but the M48 switches to a 4 man crew with the loader becoming the radio man, so if you move the crew up the line the radio man will become spare but then still be able to use in your crew trainer.

Then you'll probably want to train situational awareness on your loader for the tier 10.

You aren't missing out on too much. Thunderbolt is decent, but even with a better version of the M1A2 (bit more accurate, .38 vs .40 IIRC) you still have 128mm penetration - and you "only" get -10 gun depression. Not great when you both need to load gold and aim for tiny "weakspots". Even the turret armor is not that great - you can't expect to troll T8s like you can with the Jumbo.

Same story with Furry. Like the TB it gets -10 gun depression - and it is slower than the normal Easy Eight - which isn't a great tank to begin with - despite having the same armor. Great stuff if you ask me.

M46KR is a decently good T8 medium (better than the Pershing, for instance), but sadly a T8 medium. Small gun and slow-ish shell velocity. Superpershing might be a better option, though of course its weakspots are beyond common knowledge. It does get decent penetration for a PMM tank, and with the amount of T10 games T8s get it's not a terrible option.

Definitely the Tunderbolt. The Fury is just a bad copy of the easy-8.

Tunderbolt but Fury is also decent since at low tiers you can abuse good crew and equipment like mad and getting 60% wr isn't hard even for bad players.

Ok been rethinking this

you can only get 4 american premiums at the mo,

t2 and locust both to small,

T26E4 super pershing and T34 both tier 8 and training new crew would be unfair to all other players in your battles,

I would use your T14 to train your crew to a suitable level for t8 then either retrain them to meds or get the T34 train them some more then retrain them to meds.

Personally I do better in the Fury than in the Thunderbolt. The only reason I have for that is that the Fury is faster, and so gets to move around the battlefield better. I like all of my Sherman M4s.

Also the Spershing is still a decent crew trainer.

I have the Pilot, SP and KR.  In November I bought three Thunderbolts to get three BIA crews (Hi, Ulf!).  I put one each in the three Tier 8 premiums and as an experiment I played them all in rotation one game at a time to see which, if any, was significanlty quicker at training the crew to 100% of its first skill.  By the time I got bored with that the KR crew were 2% ahead at 82%.  They might have equalled out after more battles but the tanks all seem so close in terms of their results that of the tier 8s you might as well go for the SP when it's on sale in the tech tree.  They all have pretty much the same gun performance.

The Fury is pretty good, I was happily surprised.

Also have the Korean Patton, but it is rather underwhelming tank (it seems even more with the constant t10 MM).
