You can get a free camo on every turretless TD that had any gold camo mounted before the patch.

Since TD's don't have a turret, you can not mount any camo on them.

However, the update caused all your turretless TD's to get a camouflage on the turret slot, which you can actually demount, giving you a free camo.

Here's a short video I made that shows it:

I hope this might help people saving a little bit of gold.

Happy holidays!

Edit: Just noticed I said "Apply it on the hull and turret" Lol fail, meant to say gun of course. :P

Edit 2: This only works for TD's that have a non-rotating gun mantlet. Some TD's have a rotational gun, while other have a non-rotating gun.

Here are some examples:

Rotating:

-Nashorn

-T28 HTC

-Marder 38t

-SU-76

-SU-100Y

Non-Rotating:

-Hetzer

-Jagdpanther

-JagdTiger

-Ferdinand

-SU-85

-SU-152

Hope you can spot the difference.

Nice find, I very much doubt this is the result of anything they intentionally had in mind, but rather either forgot or didn't bother implementing an additional "fix" for.

Thanks.

Probably not intentional, but hardly a bug. Seems like this only works with tanks you've had camo on from before 9.21, as all tanks got their hull, turret and gun painted from it - you just can't see (or apply) the camo to the TD's "turret". Still works, so. :)

Interesting.

And you could save yourself another one by not applying it back to the gun.:coin:

Precisely, you can demount everything and camo only the hulls, same effect for concealment as doing the whole thing.

I can already see mods being created for automatic camo transfers, followed by WG making full concealment a sum of all parts that have camo applied to them.

I just went through my low tier tanks, most of which probably didn't cost 50 gold per full camo in the first place and removed camo from the guns.

Nice Xmas pressie.

Mind you if I had known they were changing the rental method I would have probably never paid gold for permanent camo in the first place.

Thanks to Op for this.  Will save some coin.

Some turretless TDs and some SPGs still seem to have three areas to camouflage though.  FCM PAK 40 and T28 HTC are two I have found so far.

[Edit] also SU 100Y, Sexton II,  leFH18B2, S-51 from my garage

Interestingly, as I was trying to do the described trick with Marder 38t, I noticed that the game offered the gun mantlet as a separate area for applying camouflage - which is somewhat logical, given that this plate sort of fulfills the role of a turret. Then again, [edited]er Max does not seem to have such area and only takes two camouflages - but maybe the "turret" area of it is so narrow that it is simply unnoticable.

Yeah, you two are right. I found out about this later.
It apparently only works on turretless TD's that have a non-rotating gunt mantlet.

The tanks that have a gun mantlet that "rotates" acts as a turret.

Compared to a gun mantlet like on an SU-85 or Hetzer, the mantlet doesn't rotate, but moves around a bit.

I'll add it as an edit in the original post, I might even make an extra video real quick when I get the time.

Yeah but if you leave the camo off that and the gun I think it looks fine and you get the camo bonus.

I certainly wouldn't pay 100 gold to camo the FCM PAK 40 gun and shield when I could just camo the hull and get full benefit.

The amount of BS when it comes to paint is worse.

Check the FV4202, you can see a tiny mantlet inside the turret and that's another 20 gold to paint.

This came in very handy.  I've just bought the T110E5 and had camo to spare for it.

I thought I'd done very well out of the new system.  Seemed I had dozens and dozens of the "100th Anniversary of the tank" emblems that I bought last year.  The ones that are based on the RTR badge are on all my UK tanks.  Turns out I'd have to apply that decal three times to each tank for the summer winter desert camos.
