If you dont know what it is, why worry about it then?

Ignore WN8, it's a useless metric. Learn how to read the full set of stats instead, those yield WAY more information.

You didn't rush up the tiers, that's already a very good thing. Read the wiki and watch some youtube tutorials, that way you will further improve.

I'll start with this quote:

View Post1stWarlord, on 09 January 2016 - 07:38 PM, said:

So, since most of us use WN8 to measure the the so called "skill", I decided to actually take some time and understand this formula. It is pretty simple. The formula (which I will be explaining in this thread) can be found here http://wiki.wnefficiency.net/pages/WN8

The data you need to calculate your WN8 can be found on VBADDICT http://www.vbaddict.net/wot.php . Expected values for each individual tank can be found here -> http://www.wnefficiency.net/wnexpected/ or they are on VBADDICT as well.

So, having all the data we can start.

STEP 1:

rDAMAGE = avgDmg / expDmg -> Basically you divide your average damage / expected damage.
rSPOT = avgSpot / expSpot -> Divide Average Spots Per battle / Expected Average Spots Per Battle.
rFRAG = avgFrag / expFrag -> Divide Average Kills Per Battle / Expected Kills Per Battle.
rDEF = avgDef / expDef -> Divide Average "Decap" Points Per Battle ( Defense points) / Expected "Decap" Points per battle.
rWIN = avgWinRate / expWinRate -> Divide Average Winrate / Expected Winrate.

So, knowing what these  factors are, lets give you an example. I will be calculating the WN8  for my E50M.

  Average Values Expected Values rValues
rDAMAGE 3665 1840.29 1.99
rSPOT 1.84 1.41 1.30
rFRAG 1.88 0.93 2.02
rDEF 1.51 0.76 1.98
rWIN 70.5 48.73 1.44

STEP II:

This can be tricky, but I'll try to explain it in as much depth as possible.

Before we start, lets settle a few things down:

MAX(X,Y) = Returns the highest value ( Basically if X > Y then it will return X, else, if Y > X it  will return Y and so on)

MIN(X,Y) = Returns the lowest value.

I guess they  did this so people don't get negative values, normally it will always be higher than 0, so just ignore the 0.

rWINc = max(0, (rWIN - 0.71) / (1 - 0.71) ) -> Basically this is (rWIN - 0.71) / (1 - 0.71).
rDAMAGEc = max(0, (rDAMAGE - 0.22) / (1 - 0.22) )
rFRAGc = max(0, min(rDAMAGEc + 0.2, (rFRAG - 0.12) / (1 - 0.12))) -> Its either (rDAMAGEc + 0.2) or (rFRAG - 0.12) / (1 - 0.12). Depends which one is the lowest.
rSPOTc = max(0, min(rDAMAGEc + 0.1, (rSPOT - 0.38) / (1 - 0.38)))
rDEFc = max(0, min(rDAMAGEc + 0.1, (rDEF - 0.10) / (1 - 0.10)))

Lets take a look at my E50M values, again. ( Used microsoft xcel to calculate, hope I didn't mess anything up)

rDAMAGEC 2.27
rSPOTc 1.49
rFRAGc 2.16
rDEFc 2.09
rWINc 2.54

STEP III: The formula itself

WN8 = 980*rDAMAGEc + 210*rDAMAGEc*rFRAGc + 155*rFRAGc*rSPOTc + 75*rDEFc*rFRAGc + 145*MIN(1.8,rWINc)

Alright, lets see what we get in this particular case:

WN8= 980*2.27 + 210*2.27*2.16 + 155*2.16*1.49 + 75*2.09*2.16 + 145*MIN(1.8, 2.54) ≈ 4356.79

Lets see what vbaddict has to say. -> E50M WN8: 4353.30 . Pretty close. Probably I got a higher number because I used 6 decimals in excel instead of 2.

http://www.vbaddict.net/wn8/1stwarlord-eu-b9196dfce96da5a4945d91e880241b58/germany-1/e_50_ausf__m-48

                       Value     Percentage

Damage Dealt 2,225.77 51.1%
Frags 1,028.21 23.6%
Spotted 499.16 11.5%
Defence 339.16 7.8%
Winrate 261.00 6.0 %
Sum
4,353.30

 Above you can see  that I got more than half of my WN8 on the E50M simply by doing a lot of damage.

Conclussions:

  • WN8 is mostly balanced around damage and kills.
  • It takes into account SPOTS ( "initial spots", like spotting someone for the first time in the battle)
  • I guess I will go back and reset the base more often :D
  • Winrate is also a factor.

From here:

http://forum.worldof...should-drop-by/

So WN8 is basically a skill that measures your performance against a set number of expected values for each tank. Recently the developers behind the mod XVM decided to "take over" WN8 and update expected values accordingly, so you'll find the new values here: https://modxvm.com/e...xpected-values/

The stat it self is based on a lot of things, but the main thing affecting it is the amount of damage you do (and kills), if we take the tank you perform the best in, the AMX 13 75. You do on average 504.75 damage per game in that tank, the expected value is 674,536, WN8 now calculate to disparity between the two and rates you based on that.

So WN8 will go up the better you play, if your only wish is to raise it play the tanks you do good in. However personally I'd ignore it for now, focus on learning the game, understanding the mechanics and so on and you naturally will get better and your WN8 will follow.

Damage above all.

Tanks with decent gun, enough mobility and viewrange to spot. Use coated optics or binocs if in a td.

Learn the camouflage mechanics.

Do damage.

If you want to keep record use Yasen Krasen colored messages mod, you will find in this forum. After every battle you will get your wn8 performance for the battle in a colour code:

  • Red - Tomato
  • Orange - Potato
  • Yellow - Average
  • Green - Good
  • Blue - Very Good
  • Purple - Excellent

Aim at least for yellow, you will have the average damage for the tanks in the relating color try to pick the tank where you get at least yellow color and that is the one that performs better for you.

Then practice and aim to raise your average, it will come

and WR is product of good wn8. good play, good damage, map read, situational awareness (the most important thing and hardest to master) everything will contribute to your better performance. and do more damage, with more damage come more wins (easy to said hard to done)

Don't watch your stats at all.

Learn tank weakspots, basic map tactics. Learn how to play each individual tank.

Learn from youtubers/streamers:

Good beginner youtuber to watch: Quickybaby.

Good streams for beginners: Quickybaby, as soon as you become intermediate though leave asap, there isn't anything more too learn.

Good stream for intermediates: Circon(He plays alot of mid tiers and does so very well), Skill4ltu

Good for advanced: Skill4ltu, Orzanel, Sirfoch(If you can handle the salt and toxicity, might make you a toxic player, reason I don't watch)

1. Buy type 64

2. Deal your own hp worth of damage (very easy in this OP tank)

3. You are now unicum:P

Maybe not the road to unicum as described above, but dealing your own hp worth of damage (Fire for Effect medal), is a good thing to aim for, as long as  you aren't farming damage on useless targets, you will have made a significant dent in the enemy team most times

 1 try and do your own HP in damage e.g if your tank has 800 health then target doing 800 in damage , big rule ALWAYS take a kill over damage ( the less enemy guns in the game the better for you ) in paralell track your win rate in the tank and moe performance , things  like spotting damage won’t show on your wn8 but will improve these latter two and they are important

so don’t focus on wn8 look at the holy trinity of indicators you will enjoy it more e.g in your 1375 you can do zero damage  but have an awesome spotting game with a massive increase in your moe rating

enjoy

Get one of the tanks everyone starts screaming about when they say they are going to nerf it, where everyone says it's already under powered and everything, this normally means it's an op stat padder and they don't want it nerfed because it will spoil their stat padding like the amx elc,

You hit 36% of your shots. Aim, that's what you need to do. That will make you do more damage and get higher wn8.

Ignore stats unless you look at them in the round.

Learn to play the strengths of a tank, ie hidden sniper, brawler, hull down etc.

If you not sure how to help the team...

  • Stay alive and preserve HP unless there is a clear tactical advantage
  • Kill a tank if you can, it takes the gun out of the game.
  • Damage the most dangerous tank you can see, or the one you can damage the most
  • Track tanks in the open for others/arty to shoot

Stay witth other tanks, lemming rushes may be criticised but they often work

Have fun

Play to win, that will generally lead to high damage done cos you'll need to carry, that will lead to higher Wn8.

I used to get upset with the lemming rush, now I join it - what's the point of dying alone - and as you say, sometimes it actually works :)
