Actually, I'm almost sure nobody noticed my being absent for a few days. My account got viciously hacked and I was only able to regain it today. I haven't yet been able to do any damage assessment because I'm reduced to using my laptop over security concerns on my desktop PC. Call me paranoid, but when antivirus software cannot pinpoint the malware that did it....

So, I'm waiting for the extreme solution meaning complete re-installation of the OS and all other software. They also hacked two of my other active online games and in one of them they made so much damage I'm going to have to give it up. I am hoping the case won't be as bad with WoT once I can get back in the game for real.

BTW many thanks to CS for the good job they did! :great:

The  hackers don't seem to have played the game, though, so I missed a chance of  getting a 50+ something WR thrown into the bargain.

I was running antivirus software on my PC and it did b***** all to protect me from this. Still, pay attention to online data security, and remember protection and change your passwords regularly! :honoring:

Woah! That is messed up!

Sorry to hear about the irreparable damage done on your other account, but glad that things were not worse.

How do people get hacked, like seriously? Do you open .exe files you get sent from dodgy emails?

I always crack up when i hear someone write/say "my instagram got hacked" or "my account_type_here got hacked"

When I was in uni I took my laptop to the main street in the city I lived in at the time, I noticed I had forgot my 3G dongle so I either walked back home to get it or hunt for some wifi to connect to instead. Back then it wasn't that hard to gain access to a wifi net if you knew what you were doing, now there is a bit more resistance, but it's far from impossible. I was quite shocked to see loads of open wifi nets, one belonged to a law firm and all you had to do to access their entire network, servers and all that was just to connect to the wifi, so if I wanted I could pull information on open cases they had going on and so on, they were kinda grateful when I showed them that they had a "minor" security flaw.

Now a days your standard ISP modem/router is a bit more secure, but if I lived in the same apartment complex as you did I could if I wanted to most likely break into your wifi and see what you were up to. Watching p0rn and downloading weird .exe's from dodgy emails or torrent sites are far from the only way people get infected these days. That's why so many online games/sites/services have the option to connect your phone, or other types of authentication devices, still have my WoW authenticator somewhere as an example.

Apart from if you have a habit of downloading half the web I'd say the most vulnerable situation you're in today is when you connect to a public wifi, using the wifi at for example 7-eleven, McDonalds, or your local coffee shop.

Welcome back Browarszky and regarding the stuff that happened to that other game account, have you been in contact with the admins for that game, most companies have no issues rolling back your account to a previous state if stuff like this happens.

Support can also restore your account to a state it was a previous date, meaning you get back all the tanks that were sold and lose all (if any) progress that were made since that date.

Sorry to hear that. I have added two-factor authentication to both my gmail accounts and world of tanks.. I then need my phone (the google Authenticator app.) to log into my account to see forum or change account settings etc but not to enter the game. It's quite easy to use and very secure!:great:

So, you got 5hitfaced, slagged a load of folk off ingame, team-killed, and then sent WG an abusive email, ..and claim you got hacked ?  :sceptic:

change your passwords regularly!

For that to be any use you would have to change them every few minutes.

If someone discovers your password they aren't going to wait 28 days to use it.  They will use it pretty much straight away.

Also changing them too often leads to lazy passwords which are easily guessed.

Are you sure your system was compromised though?  Do you use the same password for many sites?  If so it only takes one to have lax security and they have access to them all.

Thankfully I don't have any passwords or antivirus software to worry about.

wifi is totally unsecure since november I guess..

Because they found a way to trick your router to share its packages.. (This is the only way I could understand that my brother explained it to me - He is the professional IT genious not me.. me tanky!! boom boom!)

He said, dont ever use online banking over wifi anymore until they figure it out.. use cable, or mobile networks..

If I can find his initial message he sent our group, I will share it here.

I’d say you’re in a more vulnerable situation if you’re still running Windows XP with updates switched off as they were annoying. Yes I have seen this.

Makes more sense than having some random "hacker" looking at your computer and deciding to test out WoT of all things. Probably looking to find some some juicy accounts to sell Ebay.

Iirc Win 10 isn't much safer either.
