Heya!
Just one of those things no one really sees coming, I decided to write an article about the portuguese "tank"! Well, it is actually more of an APC/AFV, but nonetheless probably  as predictable as Holland or Switzerland having their own fighting vehicles. (even I was surprised when I discovered it some years ago...)

The Portuguese "Chaimite V200" (pronounced shymeete) is a 4x4 AFV based on the american Cadillac Gage Commando, the most notable differences being the angled (Sd.kfz.251 style) rear end, overall simpler design and more specialization on the troop carrying function. It also had superior amphibious abilities than the Commando.
The Chaimite was created from the necessity of "homemade" weaponry, felt after the american weapons embargo due to the Colonial War's dictatorial background.
Developed By BRAVIA in the 1960's, it was deployed in 1969 in Guinea, Angola and Mozambique during the Colonial War. It had several versions, such as Troop Carrier Rocket laucher, Mortar Carrier, AA, Heavy Support Vehicle, Ambulance etc. being still in use today.

Engine: 155hp
Max. speed: 99km/h (about 59 mph)
Range: 800km (about 431 miles)
lenght: 5,6m

Apparently, as due to some armoured force modernization protocol or something, they are to be replaced by the austrian PandurII...

Anyways, I hope I showed you something new and interesting if not at least likely surprising  :)

Its a good vehicle, but the only problem is that with the current economic difficulties, they can only afford to run one of these, and one helicopter.
