The other day I heard that there won't be any mods in the new Wot 1.0 under the new enCore Engine due for release in March.

I heard that part of the problem with cheats (mods that cheat) is that the current BigWorld Engine doesn't lend itself to detecting cheats but that the enCore engine does.

I heard that there will be no more res_mods folder, no XVM and all the QB, Aslains, etc. mod packs will be obsolete.

From a technical point of view this seems trivial to me but from a PR/backlash point of view it seems very unlikely.

Sigh... even without a mods folder you can still mod the game. The mod folder is just an easier way to do it. Besides that, nothing will change regarding mods

Unlikely but no mods doesn't mean no cheats.  And if anything it makes them harder to detect.

Most mods don't even run at game engine level anyway, they work on the UI overlay.

Which is a shame I was hoping new engine would kill off XVM for once.

Obselete? I dont think so, they are all UI mods, and the UI is stil lthe exact same and so is the way they code the script.

i'm not fussed if they do or not and at some point most of the "useful" mods will be moved inhouse anyway.

I'm not sure how big XVM is on the RU server but i would say probably 10-20% use it on the EU and the only part i will miss is the win chance spotted bulbs

So... let me get this straight: after 1.0 I can no longer be XVM-sniped?

How is that a bad thing?

You can no longer whine about it on the forums?

If the new engine would kill off xvm that would be awesome.

Well as mentioned, just removing the res_mods folder as a way to prevent modding is beyond pointless, it's after all just a folder that's there to make it easier to rollback to the vanilla game if you run into issues, nothing more. They might remove it and label everything that ain't vanilla as a cheat, sure that will prevent mods since people don't want their accounts banned. Sadly though this won't do a thing against actual cheats, so I don't see why they would go down this path, it will only make life harder for the ones that use for example mods for extra rows of tanks in the garage, more visible gun sights and so on, it's won't do a thing against what they want to prevent, cheating.

If I would be forced to guess they are removing the res_mods folder and are replacing it with a dedicated service, like an app store, so people can download mods either directly from the game itself or a similar setup. I guess that's why we now have a new(ish) folder named just mods with a slightly different readme file in it, packaged mods it say, I guess well see mods distributed in 7zip format as they love to use that and put into that folder rather than how they are distributed today.

This would be a good thing, they would get rid of the need to visit sites that can contain all kinds of stuff and quite often people google mod packs and download it from other places than their official source which can mean that the mod packs contain a bit more than the users thought or realized. It would make it easier on patch days and it would eliminate the ones getting banned without knowing what mod they used that got them banned. However it won't do anything to prevent cheating, limiting or moving towards in-house handling of mods have nothing to do with cheats and I don't think WG are so naive that they think otherwise. So I guess they'll roll out a new anti-cheat system alongside the new engine, which is a bit easier to do since it's often not that easy to shoehorn something like that into an existing product/engine.

I need my garage mods!

Vanilla carousel sucks almost as much as the missions menu.
I also don't want the game trying to get me to convert and spend my gold/free EXP. When I have enough I'll spend it on what I want damnit. I want it to tell me how much actual EXP I need.

1258 WN8 is good enough to stick out in tier 1-6 and quite often tier 7, at times even at tier 8, so yes it does happen, not as often for someone with 2k or 3k overall, but it does happen.

There is so much green players in game that only interest is reds, like me, and purples. Reds because easy farm, purples because of fame

Sure that also exist, but you still notice XVM focus even when your not purple, all that's required is to be the best or among the best players on your team for that to happen which at low/mid tier green is often enough to reach.

Yeah a mod database with WG approved mods would be nice. They don't even have to host the mods, just make sure they are what they are every update. But that still won't stop hacker accusations.
