No, because the matchmaker is pure cancer thanks to the competent developers that work for wargaming

While i have it, and do enjoy mine. Its not worth buying, there are far better mediums out there, even other Soviet prem meds. T-34-85M, T-44-100 both being better, (Tier for tier T-34-85M is way stronger) The gun is mediocre at best, Armour that used to be fantastic but now that everyone spams gold even when top tier it is not that reliable, and poor mobility for a medium. While its fantastic at bullying tier 6's, in nearly every situation the T-44-100 is the better tank.

It depends on which tier medium crews you want to train. T10's, the first proto is great, your commander is the radio operator, T8-9 your loader is the radio opp, and below that separate radio opp.

I wouldn't recommend it atm due to how often you will be downtiered in it, where you're basically a discount T-44-100, but if tier 8 matchmaking improves I would say it'd be worth it as its quite decent in its own tier and can hold up relatively well to tier 9. The low top speed, poor gun depression and bad pen make it too inflexible in tier X games for my liking.

It's not worth it in always bottom tier 3/5/7MM. All regular MM tanks are bad.

I like my T-54 mod.1. It's quite a decent tank, even though before the last patches it was kinda hard to play in.

Now, after the recent patches, it got buffed really good.

- Gun penetration values

- Turret armor

- Dispersion

- Ammunition capacity

- Speed (acceleration - h.p.)

Ofc, it's not the greatest premium tank, but it's awesome since you can train your crews in it, for most of the USSR vehicles (4 crew members). It's a decent medium and makes credits too.

As I said, imo it's awesome. ^^

Not worth it with the current power creeping and awful match ups at tier 8.

I would go for another medium like the 44-100 or the tier 6 85-M.

It's a beast with the 9.20 buffs + loads of ammo, -7 gun depression, engine power etc. T44-100 is overrated and hardly available.

Wouldn't call it a Beast but it seems better than the M4 Ravi, FV4202 and probably above the T-34-3 also...

It's faster than those Meds and the gun has decent soft stats.

I haven't played my T54mod for ages. Got to say that i was intrigued and almost decided to get the t44-100, but after a bit of pacing and some more thought i think i'll pass. I wouldn't say it's worth it. The differences between them are very small although t-44-100 would be the more comfortable tank to play in because of speed, mobility and a bit better gun soft stats. But that doesn't make its cost worth. Maybe if you don't have any soviet MT prem while you have several normal branch top MT's, it may be a good enough reason to get one. But if you already have T54mod, getting the T-44-100 seems a bit too much and without reason. I would also add that WG doesn't really deserve your money. They are playing with your mind and emotions to "buy" overpriced useless make believe. All tanks are not as advertised when you get them on the battlefield, but it may that the issue really be with the game not with the tanks specifically. You can't sell them back for gold at least. You can't trade or sell them to other players. You're basically unlocking something probably you already have. A couple of premium tanks, premium time and a bit of gold for equipment and that's basically all you need to play the game at maximum level of comfort. All this bundle and premium tank hoarding is pretty silly and a way to showing WG that instead of focusing on important things to increase player satisfaction, they should focus on increasing income because sheep will pay.

I have't given a lot of thought but i will probably try to resist this kind of approaches and just play the game with what i have, may will even start playing standard account again. Or just freaking play other games as i feel that the game is pretty annoying. I barely can play one hour every time i get in before saying "[edited]it" and exit.

Dont own the T54 Proto, but I do like my T-44-100 a lot. 190 pen sounds (and is) bad, but I played plenty of US tanks which have that or even lower base pen, so I can make it work for me. It is very pricey though, so if you want a Russian MT trainer then I would advise getting the T-34-85M. If you want a credit maker, then there are cheaper options out there. If you dont care about either and want a 'good' Tier 8 premium MT and have the cash to spend, then this thing a great.

I got my T-54 Mod 1 via a healthy discount.

Now some say the T-44 100 is on sale now but it's essentially double the price of what I paid for a Mod 1.

Someone else pointed out that on stats, both Prems and the tech tree T-44 are essentially extremely similar.

How much do you want awesome looking side skirts on your Rashans?

If you like T44 then yes, if you don’t like T44 then no.

I love T44 so T54 proto was perfect for me. It’s very simplified a 5% downgrade T44 that makes more cash.

I recently bought the T-54 proto, it's my first tier 8 premium or standard and I was slightly nervous about it feeling that I might be out of my depth at tier 8 in a tank that is thought by many (it seems) to be a rather weak choice.

However, I liked this tank from my first battle and enjoy playing it.

Top speed is not great but decent power/weight means it feels decently mobile.

Standard pen of 190 is not great but all the same it is enough, you just need to get at the sides or rear of heavily armoured tanks and you have apcr with over 240 pen.

Accuracy is pretty good, not too much bloom, decent dpm and ok gun depression of -7

Camo is excellent, I think it has the best camo of any medium tank in my garage- with vents, BIA and concealment skill my stationary camo is over 34.

Armour is decent, strong turret and upper plate with good angle, sides are not very weak and I have bounced loads, even higher tier tanks sometimes.

In my opinion it is a very useable tank and I don't go into battle feeling in any way underpowered, even in tier 10 battles I feel that it can do a decent job.

T-54 Prototype is the Russian panther 88, its the worst of the Russian mediums.

Dont buy it, there are way better tanks around. Traded it in for the T34B, another relic from the past, but the T54 proto is just as disappointing. Today it is all about fast tanks with high burst damage.

Works well in this day and age against the HE spamming wheeled tanks tbh. It's not meta but a solid 7.5/10 medium.
