Back before I took a nearly one-year break from WoT I used to play skirmishes

on a regular basis, and I remember the system being way more lenient regarding

tank choice than it is today.

Tier6 skirmishes allowed the player to enter them using tier4-6 tanks, but now

that choice has been limited to tier6 only. Tier8 skirmished allowed the player to

enter them using tier7-8 tanks, but now that choice bas been limited to tier8 only.

I don't know what's the status of tier10 skirmishes because I don't have a tier10

tank, but I assume the same logic applies. Also, since I'm not part of a clan

anymore I'm unable to check if the same rules apply for clan-specific engagements,

so I would be grateful if anyone with a clan could check this detail out.

I understand that, as a whole, they're less effective all-round compared to their

higher tier counterparts, but sometimes the lower tiers were the way to go.

I remember a time when meeting tier5 tanks in skirmishes was not that big of

a deal, the T67 was the prime example of this. I myself used odd tiered tanks

on multiple occasions, the AMX ELC for spotting on open maps and the

CrusaderSP for wreaking havoc on Himmelsdorf.

So, why have the odd tiers been excluded from the skirmishes? What makes

them so unfavorable as a whole that they're not allowed to participate in these

engagements?

I believe it’s so you’d have something to whine about on the forums.

Tier 10 is only tier 10 tanks, so is advances.

Team battles allow for 7 players and tier 6-8. You need you combined tiers to add up to 54.

It is a shame and any team bringing a -1 tier tank would be at a disadvantage in some ways but they may feel it a tactical option, or players may not have the required tier. Certainly would open these matches to a wider audience.

Not sure if bringing a -1 tier tank would be competitive at tier 8 and 10 or kind of setting people up to fail.

it kinda makes sense if you think about it

There has to be a tier 10 team game as it is the pinnacle of the game.

However a lot of tier 9s are similar to their tier 10 counterparts in guns, engines etc so they would be quite close game play wise. Plus at tier 8 you can then get your players to buy Prems to supplement their SH or TB with credito's etc etc.

Then it is only natural to have a gap to the next competitive tier....6. However I do wish they would create a campaign with 5 or 7 or 9 just to be different and make you think about tank selection (just imagine no 907s or 252s).

Now that you've mentioned premium tanks I get the feeling that tier 6 and 8

engagements have been re-fitted to suit them rather than the regular tanks.

As it currently stands, the tier6 skirmishes are dominated by the T-34-85m,

Type 64 and Pudel (of all things) with the Cromwell being the only regular

tank that makes a notable appearance, while in the tier8 the dominant

premiums are the Defender and the Lowe with the IS-3 as the regular.

Personally I wish premium tanks were prohibited from participating in skirmishes,

but that would be a serious cut to the bottomline so nvm I guess.
