Hi, first of all I'm new to WoT PC, having been a console player for a while and making the switch from console to PC. I enjoyed playing the French & American lights on console and was primarily a light tank player, and wanted something new to try out. I decided to go down the Chinese light line, so I purchased myself a Type 64 and trained my first skills up to 100%. I'm stuck on what to choose for my 2nd perk for my commander, I'm debating either camo or recon (I was thinking recon because the chinese lights, up to around tier 8, have very poor view range - the 59-16 as 360 metres, the WZ-131 has 370).

These are the current skills I have on my Type 64:

Commander - Sixth sense

Gunner - Camo, snap shot

Driver - Camo, off-road driving

Radio operator - Situational awareness, camo (although this is useless and I'll have to train a new loader when I get my 59-16 for situational awareness and camo, wasted time...)

Loader - Camo, repairs

I was wondering what other people think I should get for my second commander skill: camo or recon?

Thanks.

(Sorry if this is in the incorrect section, thought this was the most suitable place)

The small % increase in VR from Recon vs the camouflage bonus means I would go for camo for second skill. I run optics too, so that would influence my decision, but it help in boosting VR even on bad base VR tanks.

My only issue is the 59-16 really. That tank (along with other tier 6 lights) only have 360m base view range which cannot compete when I get into those tier 8 games. When I get my WZ 131, I'll have finished my second skill and be onto my third which I'll pick BIA for and grind it with my Type 64, so with vents, coated optics and situational awareness I'll have 450 view range which is great. I guess I'll pick camo because it'll only be that one tank (and maybe the WZ131 if I don't have BIA by then) that I'll have at around 415 view range.

*ALWAYS* camo first on lights or as the second skill (after snapshot/smooth ride/sit.aw.)

Light tanks are a camouflage based class so train that first, then the rest.

Chinese lights have pretty good camo and especially the WZ-131 has pretty good gun handling on the move, so they are active spotters that can engage enemies while driving.

Running the numbers, on most lights, full camo is roughly as effective as sit.awareness and recon together.

One of these two makes the maps more open giving you more opportunity to relocate and do things.
So go camo first.

Camo first. You can't spot anything if you're dead.

Camo on all crew members should be a priority. It's the most important skill. Only 6th on the commander is more important. So as 2nd skill all crew should have camo.

What they all said - I've got my WZ-131 with camo paint, a net, vents and Binocs; Commander has BiA / 6th / grinding Camo, all others have BiA / Camo / grinding whatever - the thing seems to be very nearly invisible, and a delight when I get the right map!

Last week I got Campinovka, in a Tier IX game, and a team of utter puddings as the enemy... I got 1,105 dmg, but 3,994 spotting dmg!

And I'm a clattering n00b!

Bushcamping and passive spotting in lights isn't the way. Switch binocs for optics and net for rammer.

But...but... I like it in here!

Look - got a comfy chair, got a flask of tea, got some grot to look at when the whole team goes up the other flank, got a book of excuses why I didn't see the E25...

I usually go the the wot wiki in russian (just change the adress to "ru" )

They suggest all the crew skills (I just skip repair) and the equipment to use (often in multiple choices) :

Yes basically what everyone else said I would go for cammo first then retrain for BIA cammo again then Recon, snapshot, smooth ride & sit awareness

The thing is passive spotting not only works worse but also works on only a few maps.

Max camo, period.

My old WZ-132 had 576m view range as well. The irony is that I recently completed LT 15-4 by passive spotting in my AMX 13 90, which doesn't even have max view range. I will have to review my extreme view range strategy. I don't have any LT missions left anyways.
